My question: Is there a white laptop for Windows? I am looking for
something that looks like an Apple I-Book without having the inconvenience
of having two operating systems for the two PC's.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,
Allison Orange
After rolling on the floor for a looong while, I'll (Gad, my sides still
hurt!) point out to you that keeping any computer - and a laptop with its
fragile screen in particular - in the kitchen is baaaaaaad because of all
the grease and gunk that will accumulate on the screen (and keyboard, case,
fan blades, etc.) Don't believe me? Just run your finger on top of your
stove vent after 2 or 3 days without wiping it off...The same stuff gets on
your machine.
And answering your question: Primo - IBMs are just about the finest laptops
out there so anything else will - most likely - constitute a step-down.
Secundo - there are Windows laptops in aluminum-colored and
sort-of-off-white cases and even a tasteful (..?) Hello Kitty laptop in
pink... IBM? Nooooo!

Just paint the damn thing white, if color is so important to you.

but you might look at

or you could always paint it.

best troll i've seen in a long time. it's so good, it deserves a
followup.
ahem...
our tuxedo cat is staring at me as i write this on my black laptop
running linux (the o.s. with the penguin mascot). i don't think kitty
here would be half as cute if he were all white. besides, you already
have the thinkpad, so why not enjoy the view? if you really can't
stand black on white, get the ibook.
I hope I bought the right relish ... zzzzzzzzz ...
BTW: if You are so sensitive to beauty why You buy IBM?? Their notebooks are
the ugliest in the galaxy!!

One usually sees this as "ROTFLMAO." But I'm curious to know
what is the "H" that you're rolling on?

What do you cook in your kitchen? Better cut down on the grease a bit
;-P
Do you need it to be a laptop? I purchased a laptop because I was
teaching and wanted to work on school stuff at home. Before I bought
the laptop I was looking at the following setup for my breakfast bar.
A nice cheap white LCD screen and a white keyboard and mouse. Pickup
a small form-factor PC and put it in the cupboard. Run the wires
through the counter and your done. Not portable but safer for the PC
it would be white, and you wouldn't clutter your counter. Possibly
even less expensive.
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/pfuca-store/ - small keyboard
http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.html?i=1798 - small PC
http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-1041.html?tag=dir - displays
Just an option.

You shouldn't be afraid of grease and gunk if you only reheat TV dinners in
a microwave. Sadly, cooking real food generates all kinds impurities
:-)

Toshiba Dynabook E7 - Gray/White
NEC LaVie L - White/Blue
NEC LaVie N - White/Gray
It's not clear to me, but this site makes me think that the Toshiba model is
only available in Japan?

Was this a "serious" thread and is this a "serious" question!?
Hopefully,
H.Cho
Checked again out on Apple's website again for more details on the I-Book
and saw one woman mention that she kept her Dell behind a door, but her
I-Book was in the middle of the living room. A woman after my own heart.
And this is probably what I will end up with.
My husband, Chip and I are both programmers and our respective offices at
work look like the typical geek environment and he chose the Thinkpad for
home strictly on function and capability, which is just fine. I didn't
realize my preferring something that looked like an I-Book would set off
such a reaction.
If you know of a white Windows laptop, H. Cho, please let me know. Thanks.
If, on the other hand, you are looking for one, the selection seems limited
to some suggested on a Japanese website, which was just a little difficult
to navigate. Allison

Sadly, half of the geeks here only know about electronics, megahertz,
and can't phantom why anyone would want anything else other than IBM's
black.... in fact black is their coolest color <sigh>
And then there is the apparent rice cooker who have not known anything
else other than deep fry cooking and never seen an immaculate,
maid-cleaned kitchen.
What a relief to find a PC user who's aesthetically conscious. The
iBooks are truly cool. They are not only not-black, they are
translucent, milky whites. MACs rule on aesthetic and if a few grease
monkeys don't appreciate them, oh well, am sure they find caviar not
very tasteful either.

I think this is a home kitchen, not the army cookery for the 3rd ID
I usually clean my kitchen.

They have been all white for a few years now. You can get any color
you want, so long as it's white.

It's ok. It reminded me how many children were in here.

What environment do you program in? Is Windows a requirement? If so,
what is the kitchen PC for? If you are not planning on coding in your
kitchen, will the iBook do everything else you need? If so then no
problem. :-)

I liked that Japanese (Toshiba) laptop too. I have not seen it here
state-side. (I would like to!)
Anyone can order from www.dynamism.com today and probably get it in
no time flat. They'll probably export just about anything PC from Japan.
What a great resource. Thanks for sharing!

Cleaning is irrelevant! the grease doesn't jump off the counter on to
the screen it settles out of the air when you cook. I made the mistake
of having my pda on the counter across the from the stove when frying
and it got a film on it from just that one time.
