Um, I know we discussed this a couple of months back but the thread got
hijacked (and not by me, unusually). So, anyhoo, I saw 28 Days Later today
and I am curious as to which is what ending. So as not to spoil the ending
for anyone who hasn't seen the film, I shall refer to the various endings
using code words which those who have seen the film should recognise. The
DVD version ended with an ending which I shall call "Jimmy Hello", and the
DVD also contained an ending which I shall call "Chicken Hello", however
someone (possibly Patrick) suggested that the film should have ended with
"Gate Taxi".

So which of the above endings was used in the main theatrical release, and
which was used in the alternate theatrical release?

Ta muchly,
Sleau

There's going to be a couple of spoilers in here, just because I can't talk
about it any other way.

When I saw it in the theater, it ended with the "Jimmy Hell-O" the "happy"
ending (the car goes through the gate, some quick cuts of Jim in a hospital,
then they're in the countryside, and get rescued by a plane), which is
actually my favorite. The alternate ending in the theater has the gate
part, then goes to the hospital. The two ladies try to save Jim
unsuccessfully, and they walk out of the hospital. This is partially seen
during the quick cuts before the theatrical ending.

The alternate ending on the DVD, "Chicken Hello" was basically a happy
ending that could have been placed after the alternate theatrical ending.

Ah, thanks for that. Given that the DVD even included a storyboard ending, I
wonder why they didn't include the one you refer to? Ach well, no matter.

I wasn't that blown away by the film, btw. It was ok, nice premise, started
well, but I thought it lost its way and got predictable rather quickly. Just
my two cents.

That is strange.

I liked it quite a bit. I thought the music was incredible, though the
ending did suffer a little bit. The relationship between Hannah and her
father was my favorite part of the film.

I found it was well made in the fact that it did not follow the Hollywood
standard . A solid backdrop of a story whithout taking itself to seriously.
A very close rendition of "The Quiet Earth". Another very good British film
(IMHO). I love the ending of T Q E.

I agree that it did not fit the standard Hollywood multiplex mold, which is
certainly commendable. Unfortunately, I thought the story was one of the
weaker aspects, certainly the post-roadblock parts.

Not seen TQE, but I'll look out for it (supporting local produce and all
that!)

Speaking of Brit films, anyone seen Dog Soldiers? Undeniably pants in
places, and some really crap werewolves (but aren't they always?), but good
fun, some nice set pieces and very authentic Brit dialog.

I found it undeniably pants in general unfortunately.

Hey look... I just said it was pants in places... that doesn't preclude it
being pants from beginning to end...

I only though it was pants intermittently, but overall was
interesting, though the bright light started to dim in the second
half.

So it was kind of shorts, then?

On Thu, 11 Dec 2003 16:43:51 -0500, Patrick MM had this to say:

Well, no, not exactly. sometimes it was pants, sometimes it was
trousers. Maybe there were some shorts in there somewhere, but I'm
not sure I can remember exactly when.
