This mother board has 4 usb ports in rear and 2 on the MB connection. I have
a powered hub plugged into one if that matters. None of the devices plugged
in are 2.0 if that affects how they sow up?

Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers I see:
Generic USB Hub
Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD
3 of the following:
Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USBUniversal Host Controller - 24C2, 24C4, 24C7
4 of the following:
USB Root Hub

Is this consistent with others machines?
I kind of expected to see them all marked as 2.0, also why only 4 are listed
if there 6 ports? Or do the 3 Universal Host Controllers each represent a
pair of USB ports?

Thanks

PS, I did the XP repair install over an existing XP Home installation on my
drive.

Your system has an ICH4 with 3 USB 1.1 controllers. Each one has a built-in
root hub with 2 ports.

One of the controllers is dual mode UHCI/ECHI which can also do USB 2 (if you
have drivers). The manual should say which two ports.

Intel's web site for this board says up to 6 usb ports and the schematic in
the box says all are labeled 2.0.

My system reads the same, under WinXP. SiSoft Sandra also has the same
entries, however, under USB2.0 controller, it lists 6 USB ports, but all
ports show no devices connected.

When I check each of the regular USB controller, each controller shows 2
ports with my devices connected. (I use 5 USB devices, and all are only USB1
or 1.1).

So, I assume the one USB2 controller encompasses all 3 of the regular USB
host controller entries, and each USB host controller contains 2 ports.

I think this is the way it's supposed to read.

Hope this helps.
