You normaly cannot simply copy a whole DVD with Nero alone, because only a
very few DVD's contain less than 4.4 GByte of material.

DVD2One is another choice, but at the current version, it can only compress
the main movie, nothing else and it needs Nero to burn the image. It takes
about 45 mins to compress the video.
DVDXCopy simply splits a DVD onto two discs. It does NOT work on some tricky
DVDs.
If you're lucky that the DVD is single layer, all you need is DVDecrypter
(freeware).

DVD2ONE can do the entire disk it just takes several steps using a
couple of different tools.
Your time estimate is way off also. I have done a movie that runs well
over 3 hours in about 30 minutes total. Shorter movies are obviously
done quicker. This was done on a 1GIG machine
