I can't believe I missed i. I told myself I wouldn't
but I missed the annual fake April 1st story on
ATC. I heard it had something to do with tatoos.

Can someone fill me in?
Does it top the compost gourmet story or
the Arizona annexed by Canada story?

Noah Adams: "There is a marketing trend that demands attention. Have you
noticed lately all the buzz about tatoos?"

Interview with teenagers about tatoos.

Adams: "Teenagers visiting here in Washington, D.C. They will soon
encounter in their shopping malls back home, the concept of Lazer Splash,
a totally new technology. Lasers are used to paint a corporate logo
directly on the ear lobe. Alpha numeric bits are in the laser paint so a
scaner can read the logo and a discount can be taken right at the cash
register.

Pepsi was one of the first companies to sign a marketing deal with Splash
Tech Corporation."

Followed by interviews with "Amy Sherwood" of Pepsi, "Frank O'Mahoney" of
Apple Computer Corp., "Keith Peters" of Nike, and "Lirpa Loof" CEO of
"Splash Tech".

Lirpa Loof=April Fool

(They had me going till the Lirpa Loof part, and I had been specifically
listening for the April Fool story.)

Does anyone have a listing of past years' stories?

I seem to recall that in 1988, they announced that George Bush would be
drafted by the Democrats for their ticket, also.

In terms of past years stories.... I don't really know many.. but last years
about how eating compost was both a big new trend and very nutritious... had
me going for a little while until I remembered that it was April fools day.
Very funny, though.

One year, they did a great bit about how the U.S. had sold Arizona to the
Canadians... including interviews with Bruce babbitt ("the people of the
US rejected me for President, so I took Canada's offer), the Canadian
Ambassador to the US (Canada has wanted a warm water port for a long
time, and this was the best we could do), and an analysis by Dan Schorr.
It was very, very funny and worth getting a copy... but I must say people
were calling in for days wondering why NPR was the only media ooutlet
covering this story!! They were MOST upset that Congress would reduce
the deficit this way...

I also recall Talk of the Nation doing an interview with
impressionist/comedian Rich little (as Richard Nixon), saying he was
running for President again... complete with listener call-ins! How they
kept a straight face.....???

The one on the little bands of soldiers wayyyy out in the
woods who were still fighting the Civil War was pretty
good. Not too hard to spot, of course, but still funny.
The characterization of the history professor ("Who knows?
I mean, we just don't know") was hilarious.

This is what I have gathered.

1994: Laser tatoos
1993: Compost as food (with guests Paul Begalla, Norman Ornstein
1992: Internal strife in Trazhkanistan (pronounced Trashcanistan)

unknown years

-U.S. to sell Arizona to Cananda
-George Bush to be drafted by Democrats
-French designers give away clothes once a year

I've been away for some time, but if this was a compilation of NPR/ATC
April Fool's Day pieces, I recall a great one by Scott Simon back about
1981-83 on -- as I recall -- a spring somewhere that gurgled up fondue
cheese

With regard to the Scott Simon piece, I recall something a *long*
time ago, when Scott was in Chicago about his visit to a pickle
ranch, with all the pickles being heard in the background.

I also remember Scott talking about his Dad and his tombstone
saying; "See.. I told you I was sick!"
