It used a bowling ball.

(The regular full-size trackball used a billiard ball.)

There is or was a computer "museum" in Boston that had a trackball
the size of a VW bug. It worked, too (it was connected to a
computer hooked up to a big screen). You had to use both hands to
push it around, though I really wanted to climb up on it and just
run like a log roller. ;-)

The one in that museum was a large scale version of the venerable
Kensington PC trackball, IIRC.

Hyper Bowl also uses a bowling ball as a trakball. It glides on air
and you can actually lift it out of the setting.

It's long gone... and so are the pong and computer space that were
on exhibit there... I know, I asked :(
