The first person I ever met backstage at a GL concert was a very nice
lady from Los Angeles named Ann Johnson. Ann and I became friends
over the last couple of years. We got together a few times at
Gordon's concerts in Las Vegas. Ann E-mailed me early this year, and
told me she had been diagnosed with cancer. She underwent horrible
chemo treatments for months. About a month ago, the cancer had spread
so much, that the outcome was inevitable. This past Friday, I
received a call from Ann's husband, telling me that Ann passed away
Fri. morning.

As I grieved this weekend, and thought about my friend and how much I
would miss her, I decided that it would be appropriate to tell you, my
Lighthead friends about her passing. Ann wasn't just a fan of
Gordon's, she was his friend. They had developed a friendship over
the years and she had been fortunate enough to spend time talking to
him, and corresponding over the years. Gordon always made a point to
spend time with her, after the concerts. Ann was truly in the "in
crowd" but she always downplayed that status. She didn't take
advantage of her friendship with Gord - she always stayed in the
background and let the fans have a chance to get an autograph or a
picture. The first picture I ever had taken of my husband and me with
Gordon was taken by Ann.

I will truly miss my friend, and I know my fellow Lightheads will
share in my feelings about this. If you are so inclined, please join
me in a moment of silent prayer TOMORROW, NOV. 11 AT NOON - to pay
tribute to Ann Johnson, and to ask for comfort for her family during
this sorrowful time.

Thank you, my Lighthead friends.

Although "thank you" seems an odd phrase to employ at a time like this,
thank you for this, Melissa. My heart goes out to Ann's family. The
Lightfoot connection between us all runs high and it runs deep. Thus, even
though I never met Ann, in some ways I DID know her, as did all of us.

This is sad news indeed. May her family find peace and comfort in this
difficult time, and may they always walk in the light that Ann's spirit
shall shine down upon them.

As Derek said, thank you for your eloquent message. I'm sure Ann is
proud to know that she has as good a friend as you.

Melissa,
I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your friend, and it's even more
tragic when that friend is a Lightfoot fan. We all seem to have a link to
each other, somehow.

Stay well,

Melissa I'm so sorry to hear about Ann's passing. I met her backstage at Massey
Hall, and she was a lovely person. Some of you might remember that Ann tagged
along on our bus when we took the trip up to Orillia. She didn't know us at
all, but took a leap of faith that we weren't axe murderers. We had a good time
that day, and she was a welcome member of our group.
I will think of her tomorrow, and probably many more days too.

So sorry to hear of yet another passing - I wonder if anyone has given
the folks at EMP a heads-up on Ms Johnson so they can let Gord know. I
will be thinking of her tomorrow.

I like that as an endorsement, Jenny. "Well, hell, at least we're not
axe murderers!" I like that! ;-)

Sorry for the humor within such a serious thread but, hey, I'm Irish.
Aside from Guinness we're known for our wakes, you know? Where we
celebrate those who have slipped away from us, hoist a glass or two to
their passing, forgive all minor and major transgressions, and know that
we'll all be together again, by and by.

precious life really is. Tomorrow is a day for many of us to reflect
upon sadnesss, maybe grieve a little and even share some joy and
thanks for the friendships that we have encountered over the years.

Melissa,

Here in the UK it is Rememberance
Day for all those lost in the wars, past
and present. Ann fought her own personal war against cancer and sadly lost.
At 11am this morning, the nation held a
two minute silence of respect and Ann was in my thoughts. I know it was the
wrong time for Texas but I doubt that mattered.

Thinking of you also.

Wow, you guys are really awesome. Thank you so much, my friends.
You've touched my heart.

And yes, Barry has been called and I think Gord has been told.

Melissa, I did not read this until after the designated time. But I've sent
my belated prayer for her family.

And I hope you can take some comfort in the response from your friends on the 'net.

we are very sorry Melissa. Susan and I remember Anne frrom the 99 convention
and its Orillia excursion and also the 2001. She was a petite dark haired
girl right?? She seemed to have a good relationship with Gord and we believe
one night wangled an invite to Gord's after show party at his house. On a
MiniDV video tape somehere I think I have a short video clip taken backstage
showing her if I can locate it I'll forward it to you

Not only did I meet Anne on the bus trip to Orillia, but we talked almost the
entire way there. She was very open and friendly and told me all about her life
and her work in Los Angeles. We met again backstage in May of 2001 and she
introduced me to a friend that she was there with. I regret now that we didnt
keep in touch and that I couldn't be of some comfort ill. My condolences to her
entire family and to you Melissa J. I'm so sorry.
