Hi all,

I have just uploaded 635/735 in Tuscan livery on to www.train-sim.com. A
CityRail livery will follow when I can fix the textures.

It is not perfect but it is the first version of my first MSTS model and
overall I'm happy with it.

Congratulations :-)

I'll look at it when it's up on Train-Sim's sever (usually takes a day
or so before it's downloadable)

Congratulations on a fine model. I collect any Aussie stuff !!

I have noticed alot of VR stuff there at www.trainsim.com lately, a VR
"Y" a VR "T" , and some wagons, plus brakevans.

All we need now is a route and activities. So far only Yuri Soo's fine
download page and
the train sim site have been my source of information. If there are otheres
sites that can be accessed, let me know, I wojuld love to see more ! ( Yes I
have TSM but haven''t tried it - yet)

So to all the hardworking MSTS people out there, thankyou for your long and
hard work.

Regards,
David Head

The (MSTS) Y is better than the T.

SOMEONE on T-S forums had a in-progess B and S, untextured shape. Correct
shape, size and bogies. This was many months ago, and nothing heard from
since.

The thing holding back routes is lack of DEM (terrain) data for Aus.

As for other sites most of the Australian ones are dedicated to Trainz, for
obvious reasons.

Indeed.

Thanks to Chris Jennings, Micheal Thompson, Yuri J Sos, David Bromage and
everyone else.

620/720: Brendan why did you use 256x256 textures? The shape is OK but the
small textures make it look bad. No biggie, thats fixable.

Good Work though, the more people working on MSTS content the better.

I missed the part where you could do 512x512! Thats why I've delayed the
CityRail model - it looked worse!

When I upload the CityRail model, it will have the 512 by 512, and I will
also update the Tuscan model when I do that too. In the meantime just make
sure train texture quality is set fairly high . . . sorry about that!

My fault, I was too stupid to put up a screen shot . . . (d'oh)

Always on max settings.

Your cityrail textures (extra ace files in the tuscan 620/720 zip) look
better but I think you should replace them both with photo real textures not
the cityrail clipart.......

Stretch the photo to fit, the source photo can be on a slight angle.

I am sure one of the *cough* people *cough* here could help you out with
good quality photos.

As for the size, just size the textures to 512x512 or 1024x1024 and convert
to ACE. Dont resize the 256 ones as it will not look better resampled to
higher size.

You are not using MS paint i hope?

The only time you should use smaller than 512x512 is if the thing you are
texturing is small or you are using 3dfx Voodoo/Banshee which cant handle
large textures.

I got exams this week otherwise I would have fixed the textures for you
already.

Good Luck

You got to wonder why people would use a Microsoft product when the Aussie
owned version already leaves it for dead!
And it is constantly getting better and better!
Please look here, this thread is showing how far we have come
http://www.auran.com/trainz/forum/showthread.php?s=45e7e3f6117d39f465f299ba4
b72b8af&threadid=12195
and here is the upgrade announcement (which is free!)
http://www.auran.com/trainz/shop/Display_Product.php?PID=18
and this one shows where we are going on July 1 when our upgrade arrives!
cheers

I've been awaiting this for over 4 mths here in the UK and still no release
date. If it has been released it's not in any stores at all and noones heard
about it. From my understanding anyway of what the website says about
Trainz, it's model layout building and not real life driving simulation. I
could be wrong.

Hey Skippy!
only by what I am reading in the Trainz Forums
It seems it has been released in England about 3 weeks ago. The problem is
that as MSTS has died a natural death over there, most Sellers are not
stocking another train Sim, unless they are asked! I bought my copy over the
net, but you can also use the mail system to buy it Direct. I got mine in
November last year, it was released in Aussie about February.
Read the Forums to see if your computer is suitable and the demo is on some
British mags this month, or downloadable.
By the way, the MSTS people will tell you its a model Railway on a 'puter. I
got sick and tired of staring at the same things, out the windows of the
same layouts in MSTS. I got tired of running the few ACTIVITIES they give
you! I got tired of the Layout downloads of 125 megs more or less on a 56k
connection! After Downloading 3 gig of trains I just got bored with it! Then
I bought Trainz I can upload my North East Layout to you, and it is complete
and zips down to 1.9 meg That's 45 km of track! You can, or soon will be
able to animate as many other trains on the track as you want. It is
brilliantly designed, and once the java based gui is released in a few
months, we hope, anybody will be able to run their Empire, unlike the almost
impossible activity and route design engines MSTS uses.. Even without the
GUI you can set up multiple trains get them moving and then jump from one to
the other to see the track occupied, that is, you pass other trains. You
work the pilot in the Yard as Passenger trains move around the main line.
Did I tell you that I built a layout in the first couple of days of putting
it on my computer. I got trains moving around on it within an hour, and I
have been adding scenery and changing it ever since? Bored..Hell No!
Absolutely wrapped Yep! Yep!
cheers

At the moment, I personally prefer MSTS to Trainz. It has better frame rates
particularly for large routes, more realistic controls, has more add ons
(which are available in more places in many cases without the need for a
password), and once you get used to the editing features it is actually
fairly easy to use (and size of routes is not too bad if packaged properly,
most take 5 - 15mb).

This is particularly because of AI. MSTS at least has other traffic running,
which doesnt run signals. Trainz AI in DCC mode is dismal - trains keep
hitting the backs of each other, and there is no method to set up a
timetable. In the real cab mode it is worse - you can only drive one at a
time! Above all, I've always preferred the prototype to the model, and that
applies both in the virtual world and the one where e=mc squared.

I'm not saying I dont like Trainz - it is quite clever and has a lot of
potential. But so does MSTS, and at the moment it is closer to what I want
in a sim.

Anyway, there are now a lot of Australian trains available for download for
MSTS, and not just diesels. 3801, 3830, Sydney trams, NRs, various VR
diesels, CityRail stuff. I run them on my own ficticious Australian route,
as well as the La Perouse tramline.
