I have Ahead Nero 5.5. I downloaded the WMP 9 RC1 version on Sunday (3rd
Nov). I installed it, it ran. I thought it looked slighty better than 7.1,
but gave it no further tests, as I had to go out. Later in the day I tried
to burn a cd & I got a blue screen error. The error said -

Windows error
IOS (01) + 0000186E ERROR : OE 0028 : C003BE8A.

This popped up when I clicked on the burn icon on the taskbar in Nero.
I thought this was a one time error, so I restarted windows & tried again.
The same thing happened. I tried the uninstall option of system restore, but
I have Windows ME & I was unaware of this not working since september 8th
last year, as Microsoft had not put the fix on the windows update (or at
least I did not see it on the update page). My only other option was to try
to reinstall nero. This did not work. I finally had to reinstall windows &
all my applications. Fortunately I did not format my hard drive so I did not
lose any data. WMP 9 RC1 is still on the system after the windows reinstall,
so I will not use it until the full alpha release. I am amazed that such a
fundamental error has not been picked up with the beta version.
My PC configuration is -
AMD Athlon 1400mhz
256 DDR ram
40GB HD
Nvidia Geforce2 MX video card
Creative Soundblaster live sound card
MT1316B BDV212B dvd drive
TEAC CD-W512EB CR-RW drive
Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 92 Monitor
Windows ME.

If any further information is needed, please post to the group, as my email
is spam trapped. Note I now cannot reproduce this error, since the reinstall
nero now works.

Regards.

Any particular reason you're still using Nero 4.x? I'm personally using
Nero 5.5 without a hitch.

What operating system?

What happens when you to run Nero?

To remove the roxio ASPI drivers, run "uneng.exe +Silent" in the \WINNT
directory. That should fix the problem.

Hi -

Do you have the absolute latest version of Nero (5.5.9.17) and the latest
version of their WMA plug-in installed?

Thanks,

Also, one more thing - do you have Nero's "InCD" installed as well?

Hi.
I do have the latest version of nero (5.5.9.17). I don't have the WMP
plug-in or the InCD installed. Why do I need these two pieces of software? I
would not use WMP to burn a CD, only because I am used to nero. I would
experiment with WMP to burn CD's if I thought it gave me an advantage over
Nero. Why should WMP kill nero in the first place?
Hope this helps
Regards.

Hi -

I was actually more concerned about the INCD because of potential
conflicts. Also, the plug in is so you can burn WMAs, and I'm just
wondering if there's some weird interaction there because you maybe
currently are playing a WMA when you attempt to launch Nero.

I'll look into this more. Thanks for the info.

Stuart et al - please let us know if re-installing Nero fixes this issue.
We are unable to repro here.

If you are still reproing, please let us know what other burning software
you have installed (Roxio? RealONe? MusicMatch?).

Thanks,

No it did not cure this. I've got it working now by reinstalling windows
using the restore disk, however, my system is now blighted by sporadic
application crashes, usually real one player or quicktime. I see from
reading other posts that other burning software have been affected by WMP9
RC1. Maybe the cd burning option has overwrote some critical nero files.
Just an idea.
Regards.

Stuart, please contact me at kat...@microsoft.com so we can look more into
this issue. You mention Real below - that includes burning software - you
may just not realize it. It's quite possible there is a conflict there.

Thanks,
