Good Day all,

I am trying to install Sharepoint Portal server
2003 in the system which
acts as the domain controller.

While installing I am not able to select the option
whether

a. To install with database

b. To install without database

If i try continuing the installation, finally it
ends with error in installation.

is it not possible to install Sharepoint Portal
server 2003 in the system which
acts as domain controller too?

Regards,

Lokanathan

It is possible, a little bit tricky but i wonder why u want
to install it on a DC, anyway.

Here we go :

- De-Promote the Domaincontroller (u read right !)
- make shure u have one DC left ;)
- Install SPS2003 on the depromoted Server (yeah)
- Install your Database (...)
- Promote the Machine to act like a DC.

that´s it but DONT DO IT because SPS2003 can EAT
resources !

That wouldn't work, SharePoint has problems on a machine which is promoted
after installation. The only option on a DC is to use sharepoint with a SQL
server on another machine.

Hmmm Not entirely sure thats true.

I have a win2k3 and a domain controller and SQL & spps2003 all running on my
laptop.

I did it in following order
w2k3
SQL server 2k
dcpromo
install IIS
install SPPS2k3

I did it in other orders and had all sorts of problems.
In particular dont have IIS on before dcpromo'ing

Yea, you can have SPS on a DC, but you must use SQL (not MSDE) either
locally or remotely. Following Ian's order should work fine. You can also
install SQL after you promote to a DC, but everything else must be
configured inthe same order.

Extra tip: make sure the domain admin account has sufficient rights on the database server to complete portal installation.
