One thing that I've found interesting is that the reviews of X2 have
been uniformly lukewarm yet the reaction here has been uniformly
positive. Maybe its a movie for the fans. Although some of the reviews
have made clear that the reviewers didn't really watch the film, for
example Leigh Paatsch in the Melbourne Herald Sun stated that there
was no explanation for the X-Men and Magneto teaming up. WTF!!

I was surprised at the extreme negativity of the review in the EG
(what's his name?). Very harsh indeed.

Leigh Paastch was the same person who gave X-Men(2000) 4 stars out of 5, yet
this around 2.5 out of 5.
Yes I know generally sequels can suck(not in the case of X2 though) and most
of the time deserve the poor score- but this time he definitely got it
wrong.
In regards to the bit about Magnetto and X-Men joining forces and what
Paatsch wrote about this- a definite WTF is in order!!

Name one good Australian newspaper critic.

Adrian Martin, The Age.

I don't always agree with him, but at least he knows what he's talking
about.

I'm surprised too. I would have thought that X2 was gonna be hearld as the
next Gone With The Wind.

Did they not team up because the X-men where up shit creek had NFI what was
going on, and Magneto told thme what was happenning, and proposed a truth to
save all the mutants on earth, and their professor? ..after saving them
ofcourse.

Jim Schembri who has very little credibility as a critic. He appears
to deliberately go against the grain on most of his reviews. He's an
entertaining writer but don't read him for an informed review.

Most definatley - what has got me most excited about it is being able
to draw parallels with the first movie and more importantly the
animated series. Its a movie for the fans, no doubt.

But that isn't to say it isn't a good film - its a cracker.

I think X-Men was a sleeper (for my age group anyway) - a $480M sleeper. Only
really recognized by it's potential by comic book readers and those more
enlightened. X2 will do better IMO.

It had the 2nd biggest opening in the US ever behind only Spiderman.

Equivalently, for people who have read the comic books.
Unfortunately, I haven't read them myself.
