September 11, 2001 - Never Forget
I'm guessing it isn't Saratoga Florida you are talking about. <sigh>

Wasn't aware that Florida had a Saratoga... But no, it's the Saratoga
of horse racing and Vichy Water fame. Sparkling springs of
FUNKY-tasting water, that is. Not all of it, but a good share of it.
They tell me it's good to spray on turnings to raise the grain...
Should be a good show with presentations by Al Stirt, Johannes Michelsen,
Ernie Conover and others. There will be pieces there from David Ellsworth,
Lyle Jamieson, Robert Cutler, Kevin Neelley and about 15 other notable
turners. For more info on the show see www.NWAWoodworkingshow.org

Rich, I can't access the website you gave for the NWA (and I'm sure it's
a lovely webtv glitch again) but could you tell me where this show is
located?
Thanks,
Ruth

According to the old copy of AAA Map'n'Go I have at the office there is, at
a minimum, places named Saratoga in: AL, AR, CA, FL, IL and IN.
The show is in the City Center in Saratoga Springs, NY, right on Broadway
(the main street in town). The directions from the website are as follows:
From New York City - New York State Thruway (I-87) to Exit 24; Adirondack
Northway (I-87) north to Exit 15. Turn left off exit ramp onto Route 50.
From Boston - Mass. Pike to New York State Thruway (I-90); west on Thruway
to Exit 24; Adirondack Northway (I-87) north to Exit 15. Turn left off exit
ramp onto Route 50.
From Montreal - Adirondack Northway (I-87) south to Exit 15. Bear right off
exit ramp onto Route 50.
At traffic light at intersection of Route 50/Broadway/Route 9) bear left.
Large brick building on left is Sheraton Hotel/Saratoga Springs City Center
complex. At light take next left - Grove Street - City Center will be on
left.
From Buffalo - East on New York State Thruway (I-90) to Exit 28; Follow
route 29 east to Saratoga. At intersection of Route 29 and Broadway, turn
left on Broadway. City Center will be on right at 4th intersection. Turn
right at light on Grove Street.
To Park - go to end of Grove Street and turn left on Maple Avenue. Parking
lot entrance is immediately on right.
Parking has always been a problem. There is a map on the website that shows
other parking areas in Saratoga within walking distance of the City Center.
With about 7000 people attending the show, the city center parking lot will
fill up fast.
Good luck. Hope to see you there.
Rich

Hmmm, interesting. "Saratoga" is a Mohawk word that means "Water that
tastes so bad it makes horses run like the wind." or maybe it's
"Water that tastes so bad it smells like the wind from horses." I
can't ever get that right. In any case, must be there is lousy water
in AL, AR, CA, FL, IL and IN as well. But, they can't say they
invented potato chips!
(I'm kidding, of course. Saratoga ("Sarachtogue") actually means
"hillside of a great river, place of swift water" and the mineral
springs at Saratoga Springs have long been held as being very
healthful, invigorating and nearly magical in their properties. The
water therefrom is definitely an acquired taste, though.)
I never realized you were supposed to drink it. Since it smells like
sulfer, I figured it was
used for cleaning concrete, amongst other things;)
See you Saturday!

Hi!
As I said in an E-mail to Chris after he posted the message:
Ashman Technical from Stoney Creek Ontario, as a dealer for Oneway and
General had invited me to go along with them and demonstrate on the
General 260 or on the Oneway. The invitation came too late... I had
committed myself for this weekend for a carving show here in Niagara
Falls to be together with Jacques
Coulombe from Montreal to demonstrate on my Vicmark (He is a
distributer for that Company)
It would have been a pleasure to meet some of you at the booth.... but
maybe next year!
Say Hello to Fred Solby from me and buy a General, Oneway or
whatever.....buy something!!!!!!.... from him..... he will be in a
good mood when he gets back home to Canada
...and when you get the "General" delivered to your home, make sure
the Flag stays clean. Just look at the picture of Ruthe's lathe on her
Website
You all enjoy the show!
