When installing WAS 5.0, set 'IBM WebSphere Application ServerV5' to be
ran as a service. After install is complete, attempt to start service,
but receive the following error message:

"Could not start the IBM WebSphere Application Server V5 - server1
service on Local Computer.
Error 100: Cannot create another system semaphore."

Bob, take care about the syntax of wasservice.exe command.
If you see the command help, it differs from the information in WAS 5.0 HandBook.

I've encountered the same problem when uninstalling IBM WebSphere
Application Server V5 (WAS), and then trying to re-install it to the
same directory.
When UNinstalling , the uninstaller doesn't delete all traces of the
previously installed server, which means that configuration files and
logs, for example, are left on the hard drive.
when you try to re-install WAS to the same directories, the
installation doesn't delete the previously created configuration
files, but tries to use them instead.
So what you have to do to avoid the semaphore error, is to completely
delete all traces of the previously installed WAS (completely delete
the directory C:\Program files\IBM\WebSphere, for example) and you
should be fine.
hope this helps...
