Hi all,

Hope someone can help me. I can't syncro my schedule plus 7.0 file with my
psion series 5 8mb. The psion can send data to my pc, but my pc cannot send
back to the psion. The syncronizing files bar gets stuck on 5 seconds
remaining.

I've been trying for the last 6 weeks to get some sort of response from
psion Australia, UK and US but to no avail.

Can anyone help????

Brett

I can't, sorry. At least I don't think so.

Neither can I!

Mine got stuck about halfway along the bar, but started moving again
after about 1 minute. I dropped the speed on the Psion remote link
dialogue down to 57600 and the pause went away.

Unfortunately, no matter what I do I get one of two error messages on
the Psion when I try to open the Agenda file, these being "unexpected
end of file" or "corrupted". Psion UK have been no help whatsover so
far, as it's not a known fault. They said they're looking into it and
someone will call me at some point.. My breath is not held.

I had that problem with Outlook (with and without the new Office97 plug-in)
and I solved it by a rather unpleasant method:
I wiped out my Outlook calendar entirely. Deleted all appointements,
recurring events and tasks. Then it synchronized fine with my Psion Agenda
and now I am able to add tasks and appointements to either one and things
work fine.

To fix the problem, I didn't have to change anything in the Psion Agenda, so
there must have been some entry in my Outlook calendar that was getting the
synchronizer to hang.
I had done the following "non-standard" things that may have caused it:
a) The Outlook calendar used to be synchronized with my 3c Agenda using
Brian Cadge's OutlookAgendaSync
(http://www.kerswell.demon.co.uk). It's an excellent program, but maybe it
put something into Outlook that PsiWin has problems with ???
b) I tried synchronizing using the original PsiWin 2.01 even though the
manual said it wouldn't work.
c) when the above failed, I also tried to go back to using Schedule+, with
no luck.

If you did something similar, maybe we can determine the common cause.

I had the same problem and called Psion tech support. They claim is due to
having a repeated blank entry in your Schedule+ diary, and because it is
blank, you can't find it, and PsiWin can't handle it. They told me there
would be a fixed version of PsiWin on the web site in January, but if you
can't wait and can manage to delete your old Schedule+ file and restart,
that could fix it. I can't!

Hi Brett,
I had the exact same problem & found a way around without deleting my schedule
(I don't know if that works...)

What happens is I hit the synchro function & wait until it's obviously stuck &
then abort. Then I go to the C:\PSION\<USERNAME>\SYNCHRO directory & find the
file AgendaTemp (TempAgenda...??). This is the proper agenda file which has been
all synchronised properly etc so it just needs to be copied back to the S5. I
always rename the S5 Agenda file Agenda.old just in case.

Let me know if I've missed something or it doesn't work & I'll have another look
(this is all just from memory).

I have a simular but slightly different problem. Syncronization used to
work fine until I imported some calendar information into schedule 7+.
Now it will not syncronize. I tried deleteing both the agenda and
scedule files but it still failed. The error message is that it can't
write the agenda file because it already exists. I did not think to
copy the temporary file over manually. By the way if you have no agenda
file at all the syncronizer fails saying that you have no agenda file.
I tried eliminating PSIwin 2.0 and replacing it with 2.01 but I don't
think I got it all. When I created a new sync file it started at 5 so
some data must be hidden somewhere that I didn't find. I would be happy
to get back to square 1 and start all over.

Any ideas on how to do that?

I am planning of switching to outlook but it looks like that is not a
fool proof way either and I hesitate to complicate things even more.

Other than that my machine has been great so far. Much better than
anything else I have seen. I am an old HP user and was greatly
disapointed by the win CE update. I felt Psion did a much better job of
matching my real needs. PS Smaller size is more important than bigger
keyboards.

Thanks for any help.

It looks like I fixed the problem. After a failed sycronization, i
deleted the agenda file on the Psion and replaced it with the temp. file
from the syncronization folder on my PC. This looked like a good file.
I then imediately resyncronized. The program crashed but on a second
trial everything was back to normal. (Great sigh of relief). Don't know
how I fouled it up but I am happy again.

I've also solved the problems I was having, although my method was
more drastic - I formatted the hard disc of the machine and
reinstalled everything from scratch! Works a treat now. This isn't
quite as horriffic as it sounds as the NT box is used to read email,
sync with the Psion and to run an Xterm program to the unix boxes at
work, where all the real work gets done.

Unfortunately most of the problems I've had with NT are solved by
reinstalling everything from scratch, it really is a pile of shite.
