Thunder Outlasts Grand Rapids
For Fourth Straight Win
Chicago's Porter Sets League Record For Kills
CHICAGO, ILL., March 27, 2002_ The Chicago Thunder, a member of the
new United States Professional Volleyball league (USPV), defeated the
Grand Rapids Force 3-2 Wednesday night at Loyola University’s
Gentile Center.
USPV scoring leader Kristee Porter paced Chicago with a league record
29 kills. She finished with 32 points. Downers Grove native Terri
Zemaitis-Boumans added 16. 5 points.
The victory was Chicago’s 4th straight and 6th in its last 7
matches. Chicago is 3-2 this season against Grand Rapids.
Chicago (7-4, 19 points), firmly entrenched in second place in the
loop, moved to within 9 points of league-leading Minnesota (9-4, 28
points). Chicago held Grand Rapids to a league-tying low 12 points in
Game 4.
Barrington High School graduate Betsy Spicer led Grand Rapids (3-10,
10 points) with 15.5 points. Grand Rapids has lost a league-record 5
matches in a row.
Chicago, which won the match 25-21, 20-25, 17-25, 25-12, 15-9, returns
to action on Monday, April 1 at Loyola University’s Gentile
Center against the St. Louis Quest. Chicago travels to Grand Rapids on
Tuesday, April 2 and then hosts Minnesota on Thursday, April 4 at
Loyola.
