I think they should muscle the little "twirp" he's rated 2717, 8th
overall , GK
is 2838. He is light years from the top 5 in that list. He played FIDE
"quack"
time controls. He wins and now he's taking a step back, basically going
back on
his word. He's a FIDE pathetic puppet!! You don't see the other GM's
which are
MUCH stronger than he'll ever be whining about saying their this and
that.

IF he was a REAL MAN (which he isn't, he's 18 yrs. old, STILL a child)
he's play
no WHINING neccessary.

I consider Kramnik WC AND GK can easily take the title back as his
results have
proved lately and with supremacy.

I'd bet money that Mr Ponomariev is not in the same class as
Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand.
Having said that, according the Pono news conference, he
did not sign a binding contract, just some sort of understanding.
Now he wants to hold up the Linares organizers for more money.
Both sides are posturing, but I don't see any indicators of FIDE influencing the

situation.
Do you?

AFAIK some weeks ago your hero Garry Kasparov refused to play in Wijk,
didn't he? Whining about some kind of flu he was suffering some weeks
ago (!)

If that "child" is able to become WC, than I'm really looking forward
to what he is able to do when he will be grown up. Lets wait some 5
years and when he will always kill Kasparov OTB some loud voices of
today may disappear

LOL (well ... nearly ROTFL). What do tournament results tell about a
match? Nothing. And btw there was a proof given in the match in London
that GK is not SUCH a heavyweight when his teams preparation does not
work. He was just outplayed by Vlad, and if he had not been such a
lucky guy he'll be given a -5 score in that match by Vlad.
And additionally he'll never get back "his" title because he only
plays under his own rules and conditions and refuses to qualify
(interesting attitude IMO)

Exactly. Remember the penultimate game? Kasparov's last turn with
White, in a must-win situation. And he offered a draw after 13 moves,
IIRC. Not exactly the action of a heavyweight.

The short draw was in the 13th game. Kasparov almost won the long 14th
game as black. The 15th, his real last turn as white, was tense for a
while but ultimately drawn.

Oops. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. That's not as bad. Still,
both the 1995 and 2000 Kasparov WC matches turned me off because of
the many short draws.

May be Linares organisers don't think so (that Kramnik is the WC) and
that is why they want him so desperately.

Do you think they'd have been behind him like that if he had NOT won
the world championship?

Ponomariov will get plenty of attention if/when:

He is/was World Champion for 15 years

Can win nine superGM tournaments in a row (still counting)

Win Linares seven times (still counting)

Crush entire Olympiad teams in simuls, and

Be the World's #1 ranked player for .... not sure (seems like forever).

Paul, I noticed that Irina's home page is no longer listed on the
Smartchess site. Is she porting the homepages to a different server or is
she dropping the whole website thing? Just curious.
