Unfortunately I figured out that all German versions of Mask of the Sun
which are available in the Internet are corrupted.

We tried to fix that game with some files of the English Version, and
some things worked but unfortunately you have to end the Game with the
Englisch command "play Flute".

Is there someone who has a working version of the Game at home, or
someone who is able to change the command into "spiele Floete"?

How about elaborating on what exactly is flakey? Just saying
"corrupted" and "spiele Floete" isn't really very informative. How can
the error be reproduced, can you upload a savegame just before it
happens to some public webspace, etc.?

Ok.

Vice Snapshot before the Error Occurs:
http://members.mcnon.com/mbrunner/c64/2.vsf

Mask of the Sun (German):
http://www.poli.studenti.to.it/ftp/pub/c64/games/m/maskosdt.zip

Solutions for Mask of the Sun:
http://solutions.c64.org
(English complete and German until the error appears).

If you load the Snapshot-Image ansert Side 2 of the game you enter the
commands: "raus, l, v, r" and then you have the first error.

Sven Schäfer was able to fix this bug with a file from the English
version. It doesn't matter as there is no text. But he told me that some
errors appear later in the game and it is not possible to fix them with
the files of the English version because you would have English text
then.

I wasn't able to complete the German solution so if you try to finish
the Game and find the other Errors the English solution on my site
should help you in some cases.

There are a couple things that have always nagged on my mind about this
game. What the hell are the bowls for? They have some sort of map on
the bottom of each one, but I never did figure out what it was a map of.
Also, the map on the floor in the room with the 2 masks, I never did
figure out how to use that. Is it a correct map for making it out of the
maze at the end?

Also, your Solution for the game is missing the alternative way of getting
across the lava room. Instead of going down into the pit, you can climb
to the top of the pyramid instead and sacrifice your buddy Raoul on the
altar. Afterward you'll end up in the room past the lava room.

Basically, is there any reason at all to visit the first 2 pyramids? Or
if you know what you're doing can you head straight for the final pyramid.

Inquiring minds would like to know :)

Thanks for mentioning this. It's easier than going into the lava room.
And... Raoul dies anyway. ;-)

Are the commands in the English version "up, sacrifice Raoul"?

That's a question I also asked myself...

P.S.: In Newsgroups it is recommended to answer articles like shown
at http://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/anton/mail-news-errors.html#quoting

Yes, I believe those commands should do the trick on the English version.
It's either that or "climb pyramid" instead of "up".

Hmm, I may have to play the game again and see what happens if I just head
straight to the last pyramid after getting the flute and visiting the
jaguar statue.

Hi, Martin,

thanks for the additional information. I'll have a look into it as
soon as my current DivX encodes are done (I wouldn't dare fiddling
with an emulation while it works, as I'd hate to see it fuck up at 99%
or whatever ;-) ...). My memory may fail me, but I think I have one of
these two adventures as an original - it may be Serpent's Star, though
:-( .

Umpf. SAVEGAME, SAVEGAME, man ;-) !

What if the error is invoked by code already loaded into memory?

Oh well, you seem to be pretty sure it was just a file, okay. Besides,
I guess I can make a savegame from the above snapshot...

Okay. I only hope your snapshot will work with my outdated VICE
version (V1.8 or 1.7 even...).

Later,
Chris.

Would be the best thing if you have a working version.

>Umpf. SAVEGAME, SAVEGAME, man ;-) !

I do not have any manual. How is it possible to save the game?

I think so, because when I attached the Disk Image that Sven repaired
the error didn't appear anymore.

I recently updated to 1.9, but it doesn't seem to be a different format.

In the German version I stuck in the game because you climb on the
pyramid if you enter "steige in grube". That confused me because I
didn't know that it is possible to climb the pyramid. With a simple "u"
or "runter" you enter the pit. Strange.

Please let me know if you figured it out. :-)
