of what I've seen has been of decent preservation-style quality.
Have any of you heard of the Digital Archive Project? They started with
"Mystery Science Theater" (mst3k.dapcentral.org) and have expanded to
Dennis Miller and Samurai Jack episodes. Their basic goal is to digitally
preserve and freely distribute episodes of non-commercially available TV
shows in a high-quality MPEG-4 format. "The State" is one such show that
many people have expressed interesting in adding to the DAP.
The main thing that is holding anyone off on doing so is source material.
There are plenty willing to encode and distribute, but no one has quality
tapes to encode them from. So I'm sending this out to the group to see if
anyone has first-generation quality tapes of the original shows. I know
there are a lot of collections that can be found on e-bay and such, and a
few have offered tapes on this group, but I'm interested in hearing from
any of you who may just have an episode or two, but know they are good
quality and, most importantly, COMPLETE.
If any of you would be willing to loan out the tapes for encoding purposes
to receive back the digital versions (along with the origianl tape,) that
would be great, but I suppose most will want some type of payment instead.
Either way, please chime in or send in any leads.
Once this is done, anyone will be able to have access to all the original
episodes of "The State" without having to resort to e-Bay or other pricy
means. All they need is a good Internet connection and a CD burner.
