Thunder Wins USPV Playoff Opener
CHICAGO, ILL., April 19, 2002_ The Chicago Thunder defeated the St.
Louis 3-2 Friday night in opening round action of the USPV Playoffs at
Saint Xavier University’s Shannon Center.
Kristee Porter, the USPV scoring champion, led the Thunder with 20.5
points (18 kills), while Makare Wilson added 15.5 points (11 kills, 2
aces) for Chicago, which leads the best-of-3 series 1-0.
Chicago, 5-2 against St. Louis this season, has gone to 5 games with
St. Louis 3 times in the last week.
Chicago won Friday’s match 25-15, 25-21, 19-25, 15-25, 15-10.
Match 2 will be played Sunday, April 21 at Washington University Field
House in
St. Louis. Match time is 3 p.m.
If necessary, the third match in the series would be played
Wednesday, April 24 at Saint Xavier in Chicago at 7 p.m.
In the other best-of-3 semifinal, regular season champion Minnesota
leads its series with Grand Rapids 1-0. Match 2 in that series is
Sunday in Grand Rapids.
