In 1620, three years before the publication of the First Folio, Boyle
writes two obviously coded messages concerning "letters" which are
"annulled sized & sigillate up." The two notes in their entirety are:
"5 [October, 1620] ffitz geffrey : this was my fatall and unfortunate
daie : inr contract per ses letters annulled sized & sigillate up. 26
confessed to me ex cathedra, 2 live in Anglia."
"16. Lockarts doamore int Mc Jobe, Kather notic off sub magid
cistferreo in studio interior."
Also in 1620, February, he writes,
"I delivered Mr Robert waller at his departure for England xxijs to
buy ffeathers for my daughters, and my Ring or Seale of armes to seal
my letters to my lo : Duke, my lo: of Cant, my lo : chancellor, my
lo : Marques, my lo : of pembrock, my lo : carew, Sir ffulck
gruell, Sir Georg Calvert, Sir ffrances Blundell, Sir Thomas
Stafford, Mr Henry Gosnold, Mr parker, etc.
"my lo : of pembrock" is probably William Herbert, one of the two
dedicatees of the First Folio. Sir "ffulck gruell" is recorder for
Stratford-upon-Avon. The Duke is apparently George Villiers, 1st duke
of Buckingham. "my lo : chancellor" may be Sir Francis Bacon, who was
appointed to that position in 1618.
Since this entire notation may concern people who are connected in
some way to the First Folio, I'd appreciate help in making that link
in regard to the identities "my lo : Marques", Sir George Calvert, Mr.
Henry Gosnold, Mr. Parker.
