1) Every once in a while my faith in humanity is restored. This past weekend a
friend of mine turned 30. Her husband rented a Lodge in Vermont (The Winding
Brook Lodge... http://www.windingbrooklodge.com) and invited 14 families to a
surprise birthday party. My faith in humanity was restored by the Lodge's Inn
Keeper...Patrick the Innkeeper as he is known...aside from running a wonderful
establishment on the evening of the party Patrick left a note on the front
desk..."I went home for the evening if you need anything call me at ...
otherwise have fun you all look like you have everythign under control". This
man trusted our party with his lodge. He left us everything we would need, the
caterer took care of the food and we had a blast. You can stay in much worse
places that the Winding Brook. And I doubt you will find much better Inn
Keepers than Patrick.

2) Jermaine WIggins got cut and I hear a hue and cry from the general fan base.
I would like to commend the NG however as the regulars in this group
understand that the entire production from the TE in 2001 consisted of 19
catches for 210 yards. If not for one good game in the snow and one solid
catch in New Orleans...no one would know this guys name. There is a job for
WIggins in the NFL. My guess (for you Miguel) is the Jets who can really use a
pass catching TE to compliment Becht. However, lets not overlook Wiggins
inability to seperate from Linebackers on a regular basis...even if he always
comes back to the huddle proclaiming how wide open he was.

3) No Victor Green for the Pats. Well at the monitary demands Green is making
I doubt there is a home for him anywhere in the NFL. Do these guys read the
papers? Is there an NFLPA newsletter that gets circulated letting them know
what is going on? If not there should be. Green is going to be lucky to sign
on with someone for Vet minimum. His days of demanding big dollars and long
term guarentees are behind him at 32. At best he has 3 more years int he
league. He does not have a lot of leverage as best I can see.

4) Has anyone been watching the NFLE games...I have not been home when one is
on yet. I have not caught those brilliant player updates/reports from the Pats
PR staff either.

5) Having Manny and Nomar batting back to back is really paying dividends! I
am thinking that if Nomar had been healthy last year...Jimy Williams might
still be the coach here.

6) Roman Phifer has still not signed a contract. I am thinking he does nto
want to go to any mini camps.

7) Deion Brance and David Givens are both supposed to be decent punt and KO
returners. The thinking is they can spell Troy Brown from those duties
occassionally. I am not so sure I want Brown replaced on Punt return duty that
often. he is an awsome weapon in the hidden yardage battle.

8) The Ben and Jerry's factory tour...is not worth the $2.00. However the
Coffee, Coffee, Buzz, Buzz...frappe (or cabinet if you are a Rhode
Islander...or Milk Shake if you are a heathen) was well worth the $3.75.

9) AM I right the Pats basically traded Riddick Parker and Brandon Mitchell for
Rick Lyle and Steve Martin...that is not an upgrade. They will need to bring
in another DL and/or hope they drafted a sleeper.

10) Does anyone know why Terrell Buckley is adament about not coming back to
NE. It is not like anyone else is going to give him more than league minimum?
WHy not come back to the defending world champions.

11) 4 1/2 up and 7 in the loss column. Not a bad April.

12) So Mike Tyson can now legitimize his infidelity because Michael Jordan had
an affair. oh the horrors.

13) Spiderman had the largest weekend opening ever. That record will stand for
exactly 2 weeks I predict.

14) The world is a weird place...the Saudi crown prince comes to Texas, gets a
tour of the Presidents ranch, lectures the president on Alerican imperialism
and foreign policy and then has a Texas BBQ. Ariel Sharon is going to come the
white house, get an icy reception and if he is lucky, some bagels for the ride
home. Last time I looked 14 of the 18 WTC terrorists carried Saudi
Birthcertificates and pass ports...while SHaron is on the front line fighting
the good fight against terrorists. Ah moral releventism...you have to love it.

15) What is up with these college professors writing these "provactive" pieces
supporting Pedofilia...I thought the leftists were supposed to disagree with
Church Canon?

16) Zen question of the day....if the lodge you stay at has a real moose head
stuffed and mounted over the fireplace...do you explain to your 4 year old
daughter the 90 inches of orange rule?

17) Antwoine Walker is doing a lot for his rep in this town. Coming off the
court in Detroit and saying...I have only gotten 1 shot in the third quarter to
the coach. Aside from the fact that he is tallying his touches in a playoff
game....what the heck is he doing bitching about it?

18) Did I hear Mike O'Connell right...he said the Bruins could afford both
Guerin and DaFoe if they wanted to. Great...that means neither will be signed.

19) If there is a god in heaven then the Expos will win the East.

20) Lastly, WEEI is getting Patriots Monday back...how much can it possibly be
now that Fred and Drew will not be having love ins?

I'm just not sure why they had to do it now. The prevailing thought is so
that he'll have a chance to catch on with another team. Since when does BB
care about that?

Although I was a Jimy supporter at the time, I think Grady's attitude and
and ability to comunicate with the players is much better. And in this day
and age of premodonnas, I think that's a good thing.

Exactly. And the Pats know it but don't want to chase a guy to come back
just to have him skip the workouts. It would set a bad president for the
rest of the team. That's why, IMO, the Pats and he have a deal all worked
out, including an agreement not to sign until training camp or shortly
before. It's a lock that he'll be back.

A great movie.

He had to add that qualifier because they may choose not to sign Defoe.
Guerin is a lock unless he asks for more that $10M.

I am guessing that there was a workout or roster bonus due him May 1 or
thereabout that they did not want to pay knowing they were going to cut him.

------I had a really great experience with some people in Rutland, Vermont
one time. Got into a sticky situation with the truck that I was driving
(unforseen, believe me) and before I could get out of the door, several
people had converged on the scene to give me a hand. It was unbelievable.
You won't catch me saying anything bad about Vermont.

I think you might be mistaken...ice cream & Soda is an Ice Cream Soda. However
that is not what a Frappe, Cabinet or Milk Shake are. They are Ice cream, milk
(or cream if you have guts), and vanilla syrup. In RI this drink is called a
cabinet. North of RI and East of NY they call this drink a Frappe. Everywhere
else in this country they incorrectly call this a milk shake. A milk shake as
all new englanders know...has no ice cream in it.

Did you see it? It's a four out of five? So let's establish a baseline:
What were some other, less recent films and ratings, if you don't mind.

I plan on seeing it if it's really something special. I never have the time
to go see any movies unless they are block busters or I have to for work.

Are you sure that is not just the normal reaction of Mainer's to having to
work? I learned about Frappes a long time ago at the Naples Ice Cream Shoppe,
across the street from Marios in Naples, Maine all those years ago when I went
ot camp in Casco on Pleasant Lake at Samoset (the old Bronia for those of you
totally in the know). Prior to that education I always thought it was called a
Cabinet. When I got to Oregon...they had no idea what I was talking about with
either term...or about much else (sorry Greg) and they called it a milk
shake...which was just dead wrong.

a chance to see a lot of movies, due to my work, here are other recent
movies I've seen and their score, with 5 being Great, 3 being average:

Blade II - 3 (first Blade was a 4)
Ice Age - 4
The man who knew too much - 3
Memento - 4
Donnie Darko - 3
Training Day - 4

Hey, I just saw Blade for the first time this weekend. I agree it was a 4, but
ONLY because of the impressive Wesley Snipes - an example of perfect casting.
The movie as a whole was mediocre. Okay..... Kristofferson was kind of cool

I was all psyched when I heard there was going to be a Daredevil movie next
year. THAT was my favorite comic as a kid and I was getting all worked up
about it. Then I found out Ben Affleck was playing him. The only
comparable movie letdown is when I found out that Stephen Baldwin was in
Slap Shot 2 and that it was being released direct to video.

I know the ice cream place that you are speaking of. Stopped there a couple

the lake this summer. It's the only place that I know of that offers it.

Please note that Branch did not return KOs at Louisville. Out of the 35 punt
returns Louisville had in 2001 Branch accounted for 10 of them.

The Lyle/Martin duo is also older than the Parker/Mitchell tandem.

Belichick isn't high on it (giving him something in common with
Bengals GM Mike Brown).

I'm amazed the NFL continues to subsidize the NFLE, given how little
effort they put into managing it. The marketting alone, on both sides
of the Atlantic, is pitiful and self-destructive, but then there's
these stupid regulations like limiting players to a maximum number of
years on any one team (we're talking like 3 or 4). Only the most
pathetic laundry fan could be a fan of that. I hate it. Make me
Supreme Dictator of that league, and I'd turn it into the #6 pro
sports league in the US within a couple years, #5 after a decade.
Give me NFL Asia too. I can't believe they're just sitting on their
asses while the Far East learns to play friggin' soccer. Football is
wrapped with a bow for the Japanese market in particular. They won
the "World Cup" of amateur American Football a couple years ago, but
now they're going to co-host the World Cup of soccer and set that
nation back another 20 years.

It'd be more educational to tour one of the cranberry bogs I spent a
couple summers working at, and see how careless everyone is about
spraying pesticides all over the damn place. It all ends up in the
water/swamp anyway, along with about a million snakes and everything
they crap. (For some reason, being in the water makes even little
snakes feel invincible. It's like they suddenly think they're
crocodiles and can easily take down any human). Man, the mental
tricks I have to play on myself to fulfill my regional patriotism
quota and drink cranberry juice.

Mitchell's the only one you'd actually want on your roster, and then
only as a sub.

> > 19) If there is a god in heaven then the Expos will win the East.

We don't need no stinkin' god. Les Expos have been my team ever since
I realized I hated the Sox but hated the Yankees (and Mets) even more.
Also, if I ever accidentally have a kid, I'm naming him after
Vladimir Guerrero. A big Kelt named Vlad. Nobody would mess with
him. Plus I'll tie his right arm behind his back at birth and have
him kicking for distance from the moment he can walk, so he can have

It's been proven that poutine raises one's cholestorol by 200%.

Really an expected reaction from the general fan base. Hometown boy
makes good and all. Plus the fact that the bulk of production
happened under the spotlight SB run which attracts even more than just
your casual fan.

Wiggins will find a home elswhere in the league. He did a fine job
through the playoffs and should consider himself fortunate for the
opportunity to have played on a SB winning team. Personally I feel
that BB did do him a bit of a favor by cutting him now by giving him
the opportunity to get picked up by another team. Perhaps the
smallish Holloway has progressed, and Love has turned into Ben Coates
over the winter. Both the draft and acquisition of Cleeland and
Fauria of course would belie these thoughts. The competition at TE
should prove quite interesting this season. Enough so, that I'll be
doing something that I haven't done for the last 3 seasons. Namely,
stopping by Bryant College a couple of times over this summer.

> ...even if he always comes back to the huddle proclaiming how wide open he >was.

Wiggins appeared with Bob Lobel and Steve Burton on last Sunday's
Sports Final (after WBZ's 11 PM newscast) saying how he was "stunned"
about getting cut. He also went on to say that's just the "nature of
the business".

Then, Steve Burton asked him, "Did Bill Bellichick do you a favor by
cutting you now?" Wiggins replied, "I wouldn't call it a favor." He
went on to say that he would have preferred to compete for a spot in
training camp. Saying that he "caught every ball that was thrown my
way". And that he could have caught 10 balls every game but claiming
that it wasn't going to happen because Troy was the priority.

Burton then asked him how he found out about getting cut. Jermaine
said that BB and SP called him into the office and told him "straight
up".

Then Burton stated that the knock on Rutledge was that he could
block but couldn't catch. And that the knock on him (sic. Wiggins)
was that he can catch, but can't block. Wiggins replied that he
started 4 games, and A. Smith ran for 100 plus yards in each of those
starts, of course implying that his blocking played a part. He also
stated that a clutch catch of his in Buffalo resulted in the game
winning AV FG.

I might add that he said all of this while wearing a sweatshirt with
"Iverson" printed in blue block letters across the front of it.
Lobell called him on his choice of clothing for the interview,
implying that he was kind of thumbing his nose at his situation (the
Celtics were playing the Sixers at this point in the NBA playoffs).
Wiggins replied that he wasn't "about that".

I follow the NFLE through http://www.nfleurope.com , and haven't
ever even seen a NFLE game! Other than football season (college and
pro), I limit my TV viewing to what I can pick up through my roof
antenna, which ain't much. When September rolls around, I fire up the
satellite dish, and enjoy my NFL Season Ticket. I'm happily
self-employed, and work from home, so having the tube around, and
having no self control with the remote, has lead to my present system.
Now, if I could just bare to lock up my motorcycle, my dog, and my
fishing pole, I just might get something done.

That said, I do follow the travails of the NFL players/hopefuls.
Lately, I've taken an interest in Tee Martin (Pittsburgh) of the Rhein
Fire. Actually, it was his 11 on the Wonderlic Personnel Test (see my
BB says Wonderlic-me post) that interested me the most initially.

week 4 of NFLE NEP allocations:

G MIKE CLARE, Frankfurt Galaxy
Started against Scotland.

G PAT DOWNEY, Frankfurt Galaxy
Started versus Scotland.

DE RADELL LOCKHART, Scottish Claymores
Had one tackle, a pass defensed and forced a fumble against
Frankfurt.

WR SCOTT MC CREADY, Scottish Claymores
Started versus Frankfurt.

LB MAUGAULA TUITELE, Rhein Fire
Started and recorded two tackles and a pass defensed against F.C.
Barcelona.

My college days harken back to the tour that my friends and I would
take nearly every Sunday, ...the Harpoon Brewery Tour. At that time
the brewery consisted of a single small warehouse down by Jimmy's
Harborside/Pier 4/ World Trade Center. There was a balcony area over
the warehouse floor where you could watch the forktrucks move kegs
around , ...thrilling, but we showed up never-the-less. It didn't
hurt that one of our buddies had a friend on the bottom floor of the
brewery. He treated us well. He would fill up a "sampling" tray, and
leave us to out own devices. It was one way to spend a Sunday
afternoon in Beantown. Oh, and BTW, that tour was free.

Tampa Bay, the Orioles, and Toronto should pad the W column somewhat

rewarding to listen (I'm an avid Red Sox radio listener) to them when
they face the tougher opponents.

Buck was benched for one game for "arguing" with a coach, so this might have

Branch did return kickoffs for his JuCo team prior to transferring to
Louisville, averaging an inauspicious (given the competition) 23 yards
per return.

Cholestorol is that substance which clogs arteries, leads to cardiac
arrest, and causes people who would otherwise enjoy life to stop
eating poutine.

Just what is the heart attack rate in Quebec anyway?

And to answer what I think he really wants to know <G>

Poutine is basically a type of Canadian French Fry.

It contains French fries, gravy, and cheese curds.

A bucket of french fries with brown gravy poured on top. Some places also
place chunks of cheddar cheese on top. The gravy makes the cheese melt all
over the fries. That, a molson export, a "smoked meat" sanwhich and hockey
makes Montreal a great place to visit (oh yeah, Teazer's and Wanda's doesn't
hurt either).
