Are the "Ba"s supposed to quarter notes (one beat)? Are the "da"s
supposed to be eighth notes (1/2 beat)? How do you account for dotted
notes, ties, whole notes, sixteenth notes, etc.?
I always use TA and ti (although BA and da will work - BA and di would
probably work better).
A whole note is a TA that is counted out like TA-A-A-A...similarly, a
half note is counted out TA-A TA-A.
There is a way to make sixteenths happen, btw: ti-e-and-uh
ti-e-and-uh, etc.
This method works well, and is used as part of music curriculum (in
varied forms) all over the US, AFAIK.
For example, the Star Spangled Banner goes (with dots implied by Ti):
Ti ti /TA TA TA/TA-A Ti ti/TA TA TA/TA-A ti ti/TA ti TA/TA....
Incidently, the only 'sports music' I ever liked was the soundtrack
that accompanied those old football films (yes, they used to use film
and it looked great) in the 70s (it was like the This Week In
Football).
It had to happen sooner or later...this discussion had to be broken
down into something that sounds more complicated than it actually was
intended to be (*rolls eyes*)!!!

My favorite of all time was in 2000, I believe, during the NLDS
between the Cardinals and the Braves on Fox, when they used the Foo
Fighters' "There Goes My Hero", with clips of players like McGwire,
Edmonds, Maddux, Brian Jordan, etc., just horsing around; some had
placards with the words to the song on it. Very cool, plus I'm a
Cardinals fan, so it added a little more to the opening of the
broadcast for me.
