Foster parents face tension,
faulty system

As need rises, many drop out, report

WASHINGTON -- Burned-out foster parents
have little voice in decisions about kids they care
for, are forced to spend hundreds of dollars on
unexpected costs and too often are stung by false
accusations of child abuse, government auditors
say.

The way to effect change in the child welfare system is not to become a foster
parent.

Foster parents choose to become foster parents. They are free to stop at any
time. If they choose not to stop, they are responsible for the battles they
choose to take on and the difficulties they experience.

Perhaps the greatest way to effect change in the foster care system is for
foster parents to simply stop being foster parents. That would certainly make
it more difficult to remove children fromt he home because there would simply
be no place to put them.

And if there were no foster care, there would be none of the associated
problems that occur in foster care.

You're asking the lowest element of society to go on strike for moral
grounds?

There are legions of people willing to hold hostages for pay -
particularly when the state says it's ok to do so.

And if these people someday come up in short supply, there are legions
more who are willing to work as 8hr/day guards in foster institutions.
There is no reason the state has to stick with the mom & pop foster
operations. Indeed, considering the rapid growth of local foster
institutions, Missouri seems to be moving away from the small and toward
the large. (BTW, I don't automatically consider the big institutions the
worse of the two evils.)

Actually, foster custody is just part of the CPS operation. The whole
machine must be killed.

I didn't consider that.
