Today, a couple of ladies at work dropped into my office and asked if
I'd seen the news on TV last night about a "New Wooden Roller Coaster
being built in the Salem (OR) area". They said that there were views of
trees being cleared and the announcer talked about the park and the new
wooden roller coaster being built. I asked them if it was in Turner, OR,
but they didn't know. I then asked if the announcer mentioned "Enchanted
Forest", or "Thrill-ville", and they said "Yes, I think Thrill-ville was
mentioned." One lady in particular has been a fan of coasters since
riding the old woodies in Spokane, WA, the Long Beach Cyclone Racer, and
even the Texas Giant, so I know that TV news got her attention enough to
listen closely and make a point to tell me about it.

I told them that it was funny that I hadn't seen anything on
rec.roller-coaster, and usually new coaster rumors make their way here
fairly quickly. Anyone else heard any such thing? Ed?

I quickly looked through the local paper today, but didn't see anything.
If this is true, with the new woodie going in at the Seattle/Tacoma
area, I'd guess I'd have to quit my griping about having so few coasters
in the NW....

Yes, but that one is Washington State. The TV news article was about one
to be in Oregon state (Salem area).

Got me stumped then. Only woodies in the US that I have heard about are the GCI
in Branson and the S&S in Washington.

If you follow that link, you'll find an interesting article that includes
this paragraph:

---------------
But it's still expected to draw new visitors from around the region and
coaster enthusiasts from around the country to the 26-year-old Federal Way
amusement park. TimberHawk is modeled after Roar, a popular, slightly larger
wooden coaster at Six Flags America in Largo, Md.
---------------

Interesting that the first S & S woodie is going to be a GCI Roar clone!

Didn't Ed say something about Tofte's operation (Enchanted Forest)
working on a wood coaster as long as a year and a half ago?

I was in Salem last week. Drove right past the airport, in fact, but
didn't make it down to Turner. Got to visit RDC's new digs, though...!
