In some reviews of Neil Young's Greendale there are comparisons with
1970s symphonic concept albums, but to me it seems more like Lou
Reed's New York and Songs for Drella albums. Or even some Zappa stuff,
looking at the weird characters.

Greendale made me play New York and Songs for Drella again, for the
first time in some years. I gotta say these albums have stand the test
of time remarkably well. They sound very good, great guitar playing,
terrific songs, and the use of language is very concentrated, each
sentence having a purpose (especially on Drella). I have to say I like
Neil Young better usually, but these Reed albums are still enormously
impressive.

Harvest Moon (the CD) lacked the MTV acoustic organ version of "I Was Lying
in a Burned Out Basement," which was an encore on the orginal Neal Young
Unplugged concert.

Now I see, you are confusing two albums. Harvest Moon is a studio
album of 1992, the Unplugged concert was in 1993 and the cd of that is
simply called Unplugged. Were you at the concert?? For the TV version
does not include the encore either. Neil Unplugged has 14 songs on it.
How many shows were filmed and what other songs did he play?

Has Lou Reed ever done an Unplugged show? Not to my knowledge.

No, I was not at the concert. The only rock concert I have ever attended was
in the early 1970's (Andy Kim) at Milwaukee County Stadium. I did see John
Carson at West Allis (Milwaukee County Fair) around the same time (3
dollars, bleachers, imagine that!). I don't know about Lou and unplugged,
don't think so, at least not that I've seen.
