What type of installation media are you using? CD? FTP?

Sorry, I can not help you, but: You are not alone!
I downloaded the ISO images, burned the CDs and tried to install:
Exactly the same error message as you have. Checksums of the ISO
images are OK, verification of the CDs at the beginning of the
installation says: PASS.
Some details of my machine: 2 CPUs (P3), 3 HDs (hda, hdb, hdd)
Master on seconde IDE channel is the CD-burner, from which I am trying
to install.
Machine runs RedHat 7.3 currently.
I am most interested in a solution of this installation problem.

I do have exactly the same problem. I even downloaded the ISO images from
different FTP servers. The hang appears shortly after trying to go into
X-mode. Before that it identifies SCSI, Monitor, mouse etc correctly. I use
CD-boot installation without diskette. Previous 7.3 installation worked fine
My configuration (all about 3 years old):
AMD Athlon 800
ASUS K7V Board
Tekram SCSI controller
3 EIDE hard-disks (2x120 GB + 1x80 GB)
Dual Boot (Win + Redhat 7.3)
Any help is greatly appreciated as well

Jeremy,
you are my hero! I tried the installation with 'linux noprobe', and it
worked like a charm. I do have a SCSI adapter (not Adaptec, but
Dawicontrol) and a network card in my computer, I wonder which of them
does cause the trouble.
Thanks again,
Ulrich
Same problem over here. The loader can't identify the CD-ROM format if
more than one SCSI CD-ROM drive is detected. See also
<pan.2002.10.12....@guglhupf.net>
BTW there's another bug in the installer (goes into an endless loop if
/boot is on an extra partition).
Achim
it's true! After disconnecting two of my three SCSI CD/DVD Drives it would
install perfectly. Reconnecting the drives afterwards and all is up and
running.
Very strange though!
