My Heavens!
That is humor at it's best. I'm crying with laughter. Did you see the guy
'wave' at the attackers and they all slid to home plate? Amazing majik.
This has to be a total cash-grab style. 30,000 suckers worldwide? I hope
they stay in safe neighborhoods. :-)

Notice something about the video clips of the use of "empty force"? It's
the Europeans doing the force and the Balinese who are falling over. Now,
from this, two conclusions are possible:

1) Europeans have more "chi" than Balinese. In which case *any* European
could go there and attack them, and win.
2) The Europeans have more money than the Balinese, and therefore have to go
there, or buy the videos, so they can be separated from their money.

My money is on the second.

Alan Jeffery

PS. Which village are you from, and did everyone get a reasonable payment
from participating in the "demonstrations"?

There is no doubt that Indonesians practice 'tujuh', 'pointing art'.
The culmination of the art is supposed to be death without touching,
but the shit that leads up to that capability is just devastating.
That's one of the reasons I don't discard the skill just because of
the cultural context in which it's presented.
You got a reply from the dude; drop on by. That's about as responsible
as you can expect anyone to be. And, when you go there, be prepared
for him to try to trick you (charlatans are more common in Indonesia
than here even). His trick will probably hurt you about as bad as he
cares for it to. Indonesians don't much fuck around. Even in the most
esoteric practices, like hertz silat, there is an element of martial
application.

Chas, read the rest of the posting. It's Europeans using the "empty force".
Not the Balinese. The Balinese are the ones going arse over teakettle.
It's a scam, nothing more.

Like he said; drop on by.
I know some 'European' guys that have learned to do some startling
things- although 'empty force' is not one I've seen. It is a 'promise'
in almost every art though, and again- the skills learned on the way
to 'empty force' are worthwhile.
As I say; be prepared for a trick- he may cheat on the 'empty force'
and just smack the shit out of you- it's a hazard.
If he does; complain loudly- such shams shouldn't be tolerated and I'm
sure you have recourse for any hospital bills or whatnot.

I've asked him for the village name. No reply so far.

"Empty force" has been tested so many times. Every time it's turned out to
be a combination of sham, and suggestable people. In this case it's
certainly a sham. Look at the mutlimedia files.

> in almost every art though, and again- the skills learned on the way
> to 'empty force' are worthwhile.

No arguement about some of the skills learned. I can do some of them
myself. But it's not empty force. Sure people go "wow" when I do some of
it. But, as Mike S says "it's body mechanics". If you're not in contact
then nothing happens. In the media files with this "YellowBamboo" thing,
the Europeans are not in contact. From what they say it sounds like they've
never done anything like it before. So, my conclusion, they've been set up.
Hope they didn't pay any money.

I'm not going to Bali to participate in a trick. I don't have the money.
And Bali's boring anyway. What do you do after you've seen all the temples?

Some of the peole involved may be real martial artists. But this
YellowBamboo whatsit is touted as a "new" martial art. Not a traditional
Indonesian one.

something about that format won't run on my box.
In any case, I'm kinda talking about a broader point and using them as
the means.
I have an open mind about 'empty force'- I've been hit with some funny
things- hits that I can't model with any appropriate skills. I've hit
a couple of times and swore I pulled the blow, and had really weird
reactions in the uke. I know that the 'pointing art' is *really*
powerful and tremendously sophisticated- it is so cool you can't
believe it.
'Sham' is a facile dismissal of skills that may not be understood at
all. Just because an illusionist can mimic an event means nothing in
and of itself.

> No arguement about some of the skills learned. I can do some of them
> myself. But it's not empty force.

Ok.
But a huge number of people have something in their environment that
makes 'empty force' a reasonable explanation for 'what has happened'.
And, I'll tell you something; the internet has made it possible for
people to make themselves known as never before. Bali is a very
strange place; with very very strange people- and odd beliefs and
practices are sometimes really good martial teachers.

whatever it is they got; I'm happy for them.
There are guys here who promote 'empty force' (although that's really
a Chinese term) and claim to teach and demonstrate it. I've done some
of the esoteric practices and had them change my entire focus. Empty
force has never been one of my goals, so I haven't specialized in
those preparatory disciplines.

> I'm not going to Bali to participate in a trick. I don't have the money.

Yeah; me neither.

> And Bali's boring anyway. What do you do after you've seen all the temples?

Ohmigawd; I'm a woodcarving aficionado- I'd like to watch those guys
work for a bit. The dancing is supposed to be the pentjak for a
sophisticated silat- I'd like to know more about that, and watching
beautiful little Balinese women do it seems like a nice way to study.
The traditional culture thought that they regulated the cosmos by the
performance of various ritual- their whole focus was their
responsibility.
Must be a wonderful place.

> Some of the peole involved may be real martial artists. But this
> YellowBamboo whatsit is touted as a "new" martial art. Not a traditional

Yeah- you don't much hear charlatans say 'drop on by and see the
varmint'. Al Colangelo has the same sort of invitation- Guy Savelli
has been available to anyone for years. Willie Wetzel and William
Reeders were both touted as having the skill- and they were feared by
people who don't fear much. Sanders makes himself available as does
that senior student of his- whose name presently escapes me. I can't
vouch for any of them in personal knowledge of their 'hand', but they
sure are standing there happy to help.
One of the things that makes me suspect these people is that they
offer to teach it sorta 'easily'. Maybe that's something I read into
it, but generally the preparatory exercise for such (claimed) skills
is very daunting. I've done some of Al's 'sets' and they are certainly
a step up from the way I did them before. He has some valuable
corrections; nothing empty about his art.

In one of the media files a largish Balinese(?) is "warming" up. The "warm
up" exercises look very much like some of the Shotokan stuff we used to do.
(A very traditional school.) But the clincher is when a bunch of people
start to run toward him. He "gets set", and as he does so one of the
"attackers" starts to veer off to the right of the screen. In other words,
he's changing direction *before* the "empty force is discharged". Thank's a
clear indication of a con.

I'm told you have to search a bit to find a real wood carver these days.
And their work is real expensive (at least in Balinese terms).

But they haven't actually said *drop by*. I asked him where they are. It's
possible I can contact some people will are going over and they could see
what the story is. No reply. What does that tell you? And if you check
their web site no addresses.

I have no arguement with what you're saying here. Some of the muscle
control skills, and "power" issuing can be very impresssive when done by
advanced practitioners. But "empty force" has been tested so many times,
using controls and double blinds, and every time it's come up a fake. Ok,
so maybe it's practitioners believe it, but it's still fake.

What makes you think a " 'consensus' on RMA" is anything at all

Hey, you're right. I must be getting thick, or something. They could do it
from Bali. Just face southeast and let rip. That should send NZ further
into the Pacific.

Are there any reps in the US? You know, if you can prove your ability to
manipulate people without touching them - an American named James Randii
will give you 1 million dollars. Think of the good you could do with
that kind of money. You could house and educate a lot of Balinese kids
with that kind of money. I am serious, if you can prove your ability to
use empty force - 1 million dollars. This is not a gimmick or a lie. If
you are interested - I will send you more info.

Ok, now you've "come out of the closet", slightly. Why don't you take up
James Randi $1 million dollar challenge? If you have anything real here
you'll pocket the money, and you can show your community spirit by setting
up a school, or some such, for kids from poor families. Search for "James
Randi" or the "The JREF Foundation". He'll be only too happy to take you up
on it. Then I'll be only too happy to pay you $15 (US?) for these amazing
powers.

By the way, how much money do you get from selling the mailing lists? I see
there is no privacy policy, or option for those registering to say whether
they want their address details spread around.

hey- they stepped up; if you aren't going to go play, you really have nothing
more to put in.

you want to prove what they do is fake, go learn it and get back to us.
don't gripe and bitch at them long distance.

Newsflash; not everyone on earth has heard of tv, much less James
Randi.
Secondly, Randi's contract is skewed to his benefit; it's hard to
justify with *anything*. Rather than delve into a discussion of the
contract, google's full of the discussion is nit-nat detail.
One of the greatest fighters I've ever known was visiting here in the

He has repeated that his/their intention is altruistic. Forgiving that
your skepticism is working in a vacuum anyway, do you always insult
strangers who come forward inoffensively.?

Corey Says-

I'm a member of a quality Dojo near LA that would be very interested in a
demonstration and would be less biased than Randi. I would be very surprise
if Randi awards a million to anyone no matter what they demonstrate.

I've considered training in the empty force before but have never seen it
demonstrated. It takes over a year of standing on stake perfectly still to
get any results according to what I have read, so I am waiting for a
demonstration before I invest the time.

If your going to be in the area contact me through Email.

Doesn't need TV. Has access to the Internet, we know that. Can find JREF
using any search engine.

I've read Randi's challenge. I can carry out a scientific experiment under
those conditions with no trouble at all. And get the same results every
time. The test is for consistent repeatability.

You don't know they're "inoffensive". Just that they claim to be. But they
take money off people for doing stuff that, seemingly, requires little
training. Read Chas's posts on the degree of training he considers
necessary to achieve a high level of skill in silat (at least I think that's
what he's talking about, and he knows silat better than I do.). The
Europeans on the demo clip are "amazed", and one mentions (one is a
middle-aged woman who appears to unfit) how easy it was to do. Does that
sound like the development of high level skills after extensive practice?

No, more like $1515, which is the cost of getting to Bali from here. I'm
not looking out for you. You're on your own buddy.

Irrelevant drivel.

I'd like them to pass the JREF challenge. If they do they'll have
introduced a new way of doing things, become rich, and will get even richer
from all the people who'll go there to learn what they do. And it will be
soundly tested.

And don't forget, they claim to be a charitable organization.

Did you guys see the BaTin tape from Herman Suwanda (Silat Mande Muda).
They throw people around also in many demos of "Hidden Silat" (Silat Batin).
Also, the silat of Jogjakarta called Silat Marpatih Putih (White Dove system)
uses BaTin training. They have a Blind studentship. The students
can "see" and perform strange feats. If you write on a piece of paper,
the student (blind) can tell you what you wrote, etc.
Contact Bodi Sentosa, the Grandmaster of Silat Marpatih Putih
in Jogjakarta, Indonesia, for more info.

In 1990, a visiting student from Sumatera, named Rehmat Syah Ramadani,
announced a similar demo in San Jose. It was slightly raining that day, so
nobody came to see it. But I went and saw Rehmat Syah demo his
hidden silat (throwing people around) at a football field.

If you use Jinn, you have to do hundreds of days of Zikar.
Jinn can basically help you design techniques but rarely help
in fighting as they dont want to involve themselves in someone's
destiny.

I think the Harimau people do 'calling the Tiger', as an absorption
technique.
The Zikar discipline happens in a bunch of 'non-muslim' systems too. I
think it's the scheduling and repetition personally, because you see
it without the religious overlay.

======

The "Calling the Tiger" is actually still a Jinn that
collects all tiger information and then possesses you
and moves your body as best as he can (considering you
have a different spinal structure from a tiger)
as a tiger. Jinn is a 4 by 4 size being made of smoke
and can reduce its size to that of a coin and hide on roofs,
and in small spaces in room, resting. It is like a real
person born, but without a human body. It has a different
grammar structure from human, because it can now some
future destiny of each person or subject. It does not
look a person, it looks at 'zat' (characteristic)
from which it knows how much in water that person is.
Jinn will isolate you first to train you and see
if you have any patience.
Normally, as soon as a human being sees a live jinn
(which looks like a spiralling white cloud)
they run the other direction. Those who stay have
to then stay with the Jinn's instructions for a while.
Sometimes those who stay want to go back to
human society and thus bring Jinn's wrath, because
Jinn was preparing some work (training, like setting
up martial arts etc. for human society) and the guy
decided to abandon him.
Why the Jinn interested in human. Because Jinn lacks
human body and wants to see and feel thru it.
Also, Jinn has all the talent and the info,
but no use for it. It wants to progress it into
human society, but human being is physically
so unstable. Emotionally, loyalty-wise, attention-wise,
and chemical-wise (prone to getting sick). This creates
a fear in the Jinn because human will take his time
(waste his time).
All the stories of human capturing Jinn are in
reverse. You cannot capture a Jinn and put him
in a jar, or lamp. These stories are made up by
Jinn themselves. Jinn is like a cigarette smoke,
how can you capture it?
It can see your thoughts, speak inside your mouth
thru possessing you. Mostly it knows what you
are about to do.
Jinn did manage to bring human society to
industrial revolution. They even introduced their
WORDS into human language, for instance En-JINN-eering
(engineering). Meaning to use the knowledge of Jinn.

He hosted several long discussions until he was so insulted he shut it

I remember you mentioning him before. Interesting fellow, to be sure.

From everything I've read and from everyone I've spoken to concerning
"possessions" of this sort and those associated with animal spirits in
regards to MA training, it seems that it was developed to relieve the
possessed of humanistic responsibility.

The possessed can now kill without remorse, suffer injury and continue
to fight, rape, pillage, etc. ...and then return to a normal state of
community leaving the onus of the acts to the possessing spirit.

The stronger the belief, the more benefits achieved and the less
responsibility in incurred.

All your stuff looks kind of far fetched to me. I was wondering why
you had to put your hands on the people who were knocked down in the

Incidentally, that all carries down the line as far as who is 'a Child

The question isn't whether or not it's applicable in a fight. The
question is, can they do it at all?

In order to see Jinn, or angels, recite the following,
each day for about 2 months.

TIME: after 12 am midnight for 1 to 2 hours,
OR
get up at 3 am, and recite for 1 hour and
go to sleep immediately.

1. Recite per finger of your hand the Name "ALLAH"

ALLAH, ALLAH, ALLAH,
ALLAH, ALLAH

ALLAH, ALLAH, ALLAH,
ALLAH, ALLAH

The above is 10 times "Allah". Double it, then it would
be 20 times. So 20 times per finger would make 100 times
for all five fingers.

Recite in total 1000 times ALLAH, ALLAH..
Do not use Rosary Bead and you can tire your finger joints.
Rather, look at a door frame in front of you,
and for each side count 100 times. Four sides would
become 400 times.

Normally a student recites many thousands
of the above Zikar

5000 times Allah, Allah, on tongue
5000 times Allah, Allah, in heart

per night! IT takes 2.5 hours or so to finish
the 10000 repitition zikar. When you get good,
it takes about 1 hour 20 min.

2. After finished the above Zikar, recite 100 times
the following Surah called Surah AKHLas, which
basically translates as saying "God is One and
the Eternal.."

BismiLLah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem
QuL ho ALLAH ho Ahad
ALLAH huS SaMMad
Lam YaLid
WaLam YooLad
WaLam YaKun-Lahu
KuFo Wan Ahad

Now you can use Rosary Bead and recite for each
bead the above Surah. You must recite the above
Surah 100 times (100 beads).

3. GO TO BED immediately. Go to bed and sleep.
Your first spiritual experiences will begin
in dream. Like someone visiting you in the dream.
But this dream is a visit in AJ-saam, a realm
which is in 3-D, in which you can touch the
person who meets you and he can touch you also,
and you talk in two-way conversation. The spiritual
experience lasts for about 2 to 3 minutes only.
It is very live. When it finished you wake up
in your bed in your room.

4. After a few experiences in the realm of AJ-saam,
one day suddenly in front of you, you will
see the spirits. Very real.

5. If you are an ordinary person you will quit
and run. Otherwise if you are a sensible person
you will stay with them. There is no danger.
It is like having pets in the house,
or being able to see additional beings as
you go about your daily life outside and
even in other buildings.

Try the above Zikar and call me in the morning.
Many people recite the above Zikar for
many many months. But for you 2 months should
be okay unless you get used to it then
continue for a year or so.

The zikar cleanses the internal characteristic
of the person, in his belief, confidence
and habits.

That's similar to my information, except that we/they rise every three
hours to recite and some other things. I've done it for short periods
of time, but I've seen incredible results in people who've done it
over long periods of time. Of course the recitation is different also,
so it's the mental/physical mechanism, I believe, rather than the
content.
No doubt that it's a strong practice- I don't think I would recommend
it done without supervision and knowledgeable corrections.
Do you stand on tiptoes at all?

I haven't seen the Herman Suwanda thing, Khalid, but I'm sure it is good.

The technique sounds very similar to some Self Hypnosis induction
techniques that I've read of.

=====

The tip-toe stuff, and standing on one leg in the water stream
all night, etc. is for Jinn to test if you are sincere and
if you have concentration. Otherwise, in a prayer you dont need
any gymnastics. Prayer is from the heart.

Hey Khalid,
Do you practice any of the dervishes the Sufi guys do?
If not, it's an interesting way of preparing to enter a
meditative state. The mantra technique you guys are talking
about is another technique, found in many religions.

Just an aside,
JS

meditative states....

This is interesting because of the martial application of mystical
techniques.
A lot of the martial practitioners are 'sufi' or one of the other
'mystical' branches of Islam. In Indonesia and up to the Filipines, it
has an interesting influence from the animist/shamanist indigenous
religion.
It's hard to make generalizations about their practice, because Islam
in SEAsia is very different from Arab Islam. Some of them eat pork,
some are shamans, some of them are very erudite and traditional
practitioners- there's a wide scope of practice.
Again, the interesting thing, to me, is the martial application of the
meditational/mantra techniques. They also blend in some interesting
ways with Hindu practice and Tibetan/Mongolian type Buddhism- as well
as more traditional sorts of Buddhism in other islands and cultures.
Fascinating place it must be.

Yes, Islam is very diverse, that's one of the problems trying to
pin it down to one particular mentality.
In Iran, for instance, you have some very old Persian practices
that predate Islam that are still alive and well, way back to the
old Zoroastrian period.

At any rate, one of my Iranian friends described some of the Sufi
practices he's seen in Iran and it's all very interesting.
And I agree, you start seeing patterns in these techniques, across
cultures. And once you start seeing that, you begin to realize
these have been around for a reason, they're actually *techiques*
(tools) that have been refined for many centuries for producing
certain psychological results. Martial and otherwise.

A cross-cultural study of similarities of spiritual techniques
is interesting in itself. Anthropologists love this stuff;
of course, they're usually on the outside looking in, but
it does make for a fascinating study.

What it *really* boils down to, is people do not differ
neurologically across the globe.
It's the same hardware. They *describe* it differently according
to their cultural patterns, but the actual "states" experienced
have a lot of similarities. Much more than the literalists of
various religions are aware of. This is why the mystics of many
seemingly different religions start having a rather strange
congruence, if a person can see it :-).
All the doctrinal fights, really, are from the outsiders to
actual experience, you never see mystics starting religious
wars :-))).
