I brought it to the mechanic over the weekend, asked him if there's
any thing I need to replace, now that my car hit the 200K mark, after
more than an hour of search/test, the gentlemen (so honest, God bless
him) told me that there's nothing for him to do: the car's in good
shape, no rattle, no strange noise, no crack, interial still good as
new (well, I park indoor most of the time, so most car would do this,
except American car), still smooth & quiet, good compression. Amazing
!.

Never thought I could keep a car in this awesome shape this long. I
had to get rid of my Bimmer 528i at 98K mile, it almost bankrupt me w/
all of the repair and mantenance. My SL500, got it for 3 months so
far, cost of repair is more than $2K so far (from dealer invoice).
It's a no cost to me so far, since warranty covers the fix, but can't
imagine keep it long pass the mfr warr cover. Second to none in term
of joy & driving though.

What year GS? That's great to hear, but I'm not at all surprised. That's one
of the main reasons I went with the GS.

After 4 Mercedes in a row, I also jumped to Lexus for the same reason...both
cars will run 300,000 miles, but the Mercedes will bankrupt you in the
process.

I would enjoy hearing your cars' stories, if you feel like posting them. I
waffled between a used Mercedes and a used Lexus. I bought the Lexus. I
have heard good and bad about both.

My story isn't really that graphic. It's just that the Mercedes is not as
bulletproof. My vacuum door locks died...that was expensive after the
warranty ran out. The lights on the dash died...required pulling some of the
dash on my nickel. It's so complicated that most of the Mercedes repairs
really have to be done by the (high retail) dealer. I had two LS400's in the
early 1990s and they never cost me a nickel. It was a mistake to go to
Mercedes in hindsight, really. The Lexus cars are as close to perfect as you
can get.

I'm glad to hear about your car, it's great feeling to keep the car in
a good shape for such long time. It also helped me in making a buying
decision, which is currently in favor of the GS430. Still need to do
more research and test drive, I love this car.

I'm not arguing with the Lexus reliability suggestion, but I own a Mercury
Grand Marquis with 185,000 miles as my backup car. It looks, rides and
handles as well as it did when I purchased it new.

Not all American cars are garbage.
