I find Sam's song ("I will not say the day is done, nor bid the
stars farewell") very moving.

I bought the tape collection of the PBS "LOTR" series, and was disappointed
that they didn't have more singing in it. I wanted to hear "Earendil was a
mariner" and "I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold" as sung by Galadriel.

The Tolkien Ensemble's album is the hitherto best attempt I've heard
until this day of trying to convey the sense of Middle-earth.
It's members are cheifly Danish students of the Royal Danish Academy of
Music in Copenhagen, and very promising indeed. Five more albums are
scheduled to be realeased in a few years!
Best wishes,

of Imladris, the Danish Tolkien Society

>Whoa. What other songs does it have on it, and where can I find the CD?
It has
The ring verse (spoken, not sung fortunately)
The old walking song (two versions)
The duet of the ent and the entwife
Aragorn's song about Beren and Luthien
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold
Namarie (both called Galadriel's song of Eldamar on the cover)
Tom Bombadil and Goldberry's song(s)
Sam's song about the troll
Frodo's song at the inn (There is an inn)
The hymn to Elbereth
Sam's song in the orc tower
It is very good, though of course there are a few points that could be
better. E.g. Galadriel pronounces Calaciryo [kalasirjo] and elye [elye],
should be [kalakirjo] and [elje]. Tom's "Hey do merry dol" sounds
carefully rehearsed, not as something mader up on the spot. But there
are not too many of these.
In general I like it very much. There are some of those inspired decisions
which seems so obvious once yo have heard them. E.g. Tom is accompanied
by an accordion, Goldberry by a harp.
The cover says that this is the first of a planned series of 3, but someone
who uusually knows this kind of thing just told me that 5 more are planned.
I am looking forward to Gimli's song in Moria. And to the bath song
Water cold we may pour at need
Down a thristy throat and be glad indeed
But better is beer if for drink we lack
And water hot poured down the back
(From memory, detail probably off)

I think it is very good. I reviewed it for Amon Hen, the Tolkien
Society bulletin; issue 149, published at the end of January 1998.

I read a review in Athelas (the member's zine of or local Tolkien
club), and went to the nearest CD shop. They recommended a larger
CD shop, which had it.

I think it's worth mentioning the words on the backcover:
"I find this the most interesting and exciting work. It reveals a close
sympathy with the original work and a remarkable ability to vary the
music not only in relation to the different styles and moods of the
poems but also in relation to the different characters from whoen the
poems come"
-The musical adviser of the Tolkien Estate, January 1997.
Queen Margrethe of Denmark, by the way, has allowed the musicians to
use her illustrations for The Lord of the Rings in the cover of the CD.
