Or is it that local.google.com is on a slower index?

Thanks, this looks like a clarification, the phrase "Find local
businesses and services on the web" is a very subtle way of declaring
that local.google.com is for paid ads only.
With Google's (so far) rock solid reputation for result integrity, I
think they should state the commercial nature of local results more
clearly at http://local.google.com/lochp.
Thus, local.google.com is nothing new at all, it's just one more
"yellow pages" portal. It is one with more than average capital behind
it, though.
But the free http://hoppa.com/us/nw/wa/sanjua/orcas/Canoeing/index.en.pl.gz
makes more sense.
As for bodyboatblade, it's not my site, but I know these guys. The
site is really only relevant in the Seattle area. In the UK, see their
favourite boats at http://www.nigeldenniskayaks.com/.
