To differentiate themselves from GamesTM which has been stealing

What a pain, I don't want to read a whole review of a bad game, I just want
to see that it's got 2/10 and then move on to reading about higher rated
games...

They have, but to be honest this is one of the best issues they've had in
AGES. I'm very impressed.. tho it has sucked time away from revision. And
besides, the scores are there. And just to prove it:

Soul Calibur II - 9/10
Amplitude - 8/10
Silent Hill 3 - 7/10
P.N.03 - 7/10 (but read my note later!)
Eve Online: The Second Genesis - 8/10
Breath Of Fire: Dragon Quarter - 7/10
Dodonpachi: Dai-Ou-Jou - 8/10
MotoGP: URT2 - 8/10
Clock Tower 3 - 3/10
Vietcong - 5/10
Golden Sun: The Lost Age - 6/10
Made In Wario - 7/10
World War II: Frontline Command - 5/10
Dynasty Warriors 4 - 7/10
Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion - 7/10
Tao Feng: Fist Of The Lotus - 5/10

And there were six additional reviews of P.N.03..

Zy Nicholson 6/10
Ste Curran 5/10
Owain Bennallack 7/10
Kieron Gillen 4/10
Margaret Robinson 6/10
Simon Byron 5/10

..however, those reviews were all based on 15mins play only, and are only
200 words long. It's for a feature on game reviewing in the magazine, see,
which is actually very interesting. And that's also the reason behind the
lack of easily identifiable scores, which are printed a bit further on.

Well, I think it's a good issue. 9/10. :P

Really? After defending the practice of scoring to the hilt and beyond
on their forum they do this.

Very strange.

Still, bravo and all that.

I'm quite looking forward to this game. However, when you say "short", is
there any replayability at all? High scores? Multiplayer etc?

I was looking forward to some Track and Field-a-like high score/fastest

You have to admit that they don't sit on their laurels. Popular forum is
gone away for an unknown time. They try out new stuff with the reviews. New
editions of Edge coming out from left or right about the future and past of
consoles. Taking the hard-line with publishers and developers and not giving
in to hype. Still full of themselves though and GamesTM is making headway to
become some proper competition.

There is some replayability to see how many games you can complete
before failing - with them getting more and more difficult until you
lose. There are also some simple multiplayer games (2-on-1 GBA) but
there isn't any fastest times as they are each 5 seconds long :D

I do, however, agree that it's one of those games that you can stop
playing and come back to and love it all over again. Of course that's
without counting the games you can unlock, including a full version of
Dr. Mario and an absolute ton of other stuff.

It's funny, if not factual. Molyneux hasn't made anything good in a very

See, maybe you should actually read the accompanying article to see why
these two are reviewing PN03.. even if it's just standing in a newsagent.
After all, if one guy writing under 200 words on one occasion seals a
magazine's fate for you...

(I'm lucky I didn't mention Stuart Campbell being quoted a couple of times
in this issue too, I guess...)

I've not seen it around for a while now, to be honest. Just had a quick

The individual changes are mostly small stuff - they've just generally
cleaned everything up and made it all more logical - but it all comes
together to make the game play a lot better than Frequency.

The big changes are that the tube is now flat, which changes stuff a bit
as you can't wrap around from the last track to the first. Also, the
scratch and axe tracks are gone, replaced by a freestyle pickup that you
can trigger when you want. The logic behind when tracks turn back on is
changed (a track now stays off for a fixed number of bars then comes back
on again) which makes planning your route through the song much easier (I
never understood how it worked in Frequency).

As I say, nothing on its own sounds like a big change, but it really is a
big improvement over the original, IMO.

Some of the new songs are insanely fast, too.

As much as I disagree with your posting style on usenet, I did agree
with your comments in edge this month. I like the scores in edge, every
piece of information given in a review is there to help people
understand the opinion of the reviewer, the score is just another piece
of information. Reading the prose on it's own is almost as stupid as
just looking at the score, they are both part of the same whole.
