Ok guys, I am in need of specialist advice regarding this shot.

Is there anywhere I can get some help?

All I see is Snake & Pull Shot assistance, (zzzzzzz), and I figure a good PUSH
shot, because its not used as much, is what I wish to learn as my second shot.
I have a crude version of one already, but would appreciate help and advice
regarding grip, stance, practice methods etc.

My main shot is the Pull Kick - see, I aim to be unusual, but I also remember
how lethal and sucessful that used to be..(old TS player here). Does anyone
else shoot this sucessfully?

Thanks

Martyn

Push: this may not work for you, because it hardly ever works for me.
When I hit a good one it seems I start hitting the ball around the big
dot and following through to the long hole. This makes my shot faster
and it still gets out there a good way, 3/4 or more.

Pull kick: I've seen a few people score fairly consistently by
starting the ball closer to the middle of the table Instead of the way
they shot it back in the TS days. (I think?)

Martyn,
I'm one of the few remaining push shooters on tour and have done OK with it.
It's an especially tough shot out of goal.

I'll exchange some ideas with you, but first tell me how you shoot yours, open
or closed handed?

I shoot the push closed handed.

Well, by close handed, I presume you mean without a roll. My hand stays in the
same position throughout when I shoot, even the straight. Occasionally, I
shoot an open handed fast straight, thats just for show though, (lol,
show.....as if !!).

The thing is, theoretically, it should be as devastating as a pull, and every
so often it is, but theres no consistency. Also, the long seems harder to
square off - but I have a faster long when its a spray.

Martyn,
I shoot open handed, so I don't know how much I can help the mechanics of your
shot... but, with any slide shot, a smooth take off with no giveaways is
critical. Take video shots of yourself shooting against a good goalie and watch
it to see what your tells are. Then get rid of em.
Regarding the quicker "spray" long, I'd rather have that, along with the
ability to time holes than just be able to square it off. Timing is everything.
Being well balanced in your stance is important too, so that you can
counterbalance the opposing effects of pushing & recoiling.
If you want help on your mechanics, you may want to talk to Tom Goff who shoots
a good closed handed push. He's a regular at

Good luck,
Kevin

Thanks Kev - I tried to shoot it open handed last night - it sure goes in with
a BANG but I can't generate the speed out like you probably can.

I figured that open handed, you wouldn't be able to sneak the angles either,
either pushing or pulling back (recoil) after the shot. Still, as I said, I
will bow to your shot.

Question: When YOU shoot open handed, are you executing the, say long, from a
closed hand position? If you are, I definately can't do that !! Lol.

My straight, funnily enough, I can shoot both open and closed.

Finally, are your legs level, or is one in front of the other? And is your 5
bar away from you, near side or in the middle on the set up?

Thanks Kev - sorry to be a pain.

Martyn (Dallas beware, my Push Shot is coming !!) :-)

Hi Martyn,
There's been numerous posts over the years here about the pros & cons of
shooting a push. I've also explained how I shoot mine. You might try doing a
search on Google for "push shot" in this news group.

If you plan on going to Worlds, look me up & I'll discuss this with you in
person.
Best,
Kevin
