There'll be a press release on this probably tomorrow, but if anyone
is interested, Jumpgate got a major overhaul today with the release of
the "Episode 2" expansion. The most interesting of the new stuff is
player-owned stations, pirating tools, sector claiming, a new flux
galaxy, and of course new ships and equipment. (If you're not familiar
with Jumpgate it's a massively multiplayer space sim, joystick
recommended, realistic physics engine.) See www.jossh.com for more
details...

Yeah but is it fun yet? Or do you still have to play for weeks before you
actually can do anything more than mindlessly stare at the screen waiting to
get where ever you're going to do nothing interesting.

Does it have a monthly fee? If so how much? Any free time if you by the
game? Is there enough people still playing it to make it fun for a newbie?

I believe the following url will answer your question about cost. Be sure to
read the small print at the bottom of the screen, though. It kinda caught me
off guard. And, nope, I don't have the title. I'm a stickler and refuse to
pay monthly fees...except to my ISP. :-)

for those of you a little leary of official releases and want some
decent player "testimonials" (all good, by the way) see here:
http://umec.oesm.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=274

BTW, Mr. Macris works for the US server developers/publishers. The EU
server publisher has just (in the last few minutes) begun it's release
of EP2.

There are some issues, and for those of you knowledgable about
JumpGate already and wish a summary of the "issues" please see here:
http://umec.oesm.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1693

among the major issues of contention, atm, are _current_ POS
maintenance costs, Flashfire expendibility, HeavyFighter balance and
quite possibly the kitchen sink as well...stay tuned! (you can see a
synopsis of the flame wars here:)
