farangs travelling from Bkk to Vientiane and Angkor, how safe?

I was wondering about farang experiences, and advice, travelling by
bus from Bkk to Vientiane, Laos, and then heading to Angkor Wat,
Cambodia.

How safe is it? Would you recommend staying the night in Angkor, or
heading back to Thailand before nightfall? Any major crime in Angkor?
My g/f is Thai so Laos shouldn't be a big deal, but we'll both be new
to Cambodia.

By going to Ankor Wat, stay a nigth in Aranyaprathet(Thailand) and leave
for SeamReap next morning. Go to Sisophon and go on to Seam Reap.
There you´ll find surely a good place to stay. Take the whole next day
to visit Angkor. It is just beautiful! By boat to Phnom Phen is OK.
Saftey is - hmm relative. But I felt safe, and nothing happened to me.
