been here since i heard about a new album coming out.
i received a promo copy today - yes, "tdf soundtracks" exists and is a very
fine piece of art.

now, after listening to it two times, my two cent...

first: it's good.
even people who didn't like the single (i did) will stop complaining.
it doesn't really go that much into the techno direction the single hinted
at, but all in all has a more timeless kraftwerk feeling, some nice
harmonies, but of course with modern sounds.

1 prologue (0:31)
the intro/outro to the long distance version on the single; but without
beats.
2 tour de france etape 1 (4:28)
3 tour de france etape 2 (6:41)
4 tour de france etape 3 (4:07)
5 chrono (3:27)
that's the tdf-part of the album; 1 and 3 are a bit longer than on the
single and etape 2 is basically the long distance version without
intro/outro i think. as an end follows "chrono", somewhat the "metall auf
metall" of tdf with some weird sounds.
6 vitamin (8:09)
a small sensation - kraftwerk goes back to electro-pop, a fine melodic and
funky slower track with ralf naming vitamines (believe it or not, "A, B, C,
D, Vitamin" works as a chorus....); lyrics are german here. to me this is
the hit of the record.
7 aero dynamik (5:05)
8 titanium (3:21)
on the uptempo rhythmic side, with a heavy bassline. a mixture of techno and
electro. might become a club hit. robo voices; "titanium" is more or less
the second part to it.
9 elektro kardiogramm (5:16)
pure electro, robo voices, ralf breathing heavily a bit as on the old tdf.
classic kraftwerk style, retrofuturistic.
10 la forme (8:41)
11 regeneration (2:05)
begins very fast as if it would end in a jungle-groove but ends up at half
speed; has great nostalgic melodies and harmonies; a very nice track for
viewing old tdf-etapes in b/w i think. very visual. robo voices. the ambient
ending "regeneration" serves as an outro.
12 tour de france (5:10)
not sure if this is the 97(?)-version or another rework, but it sure works
as a fine funky ending of the record! builds it up one last time after the
slow "regeneration". a clever ending.

DAF - who didn't achieve a comeback album half as good as this recently -
once said: "alles ist gut" (everything is good).

trust me, you won't be disappointed by ralf & florian.

regards,
sebastian

Hi!

What about the unreleased tracks they played live since 1997? Is it part of
the album?

I had a funny feeling that this album is going to be quite something else...

If they do pull it off and its as good as we have just heard, then Ralf
Hutter and Florian Schnieder are perhaps up there with The Beatles and Bowie
after all..

I have always thought that Ralf and Florian have enough money to live on
comfortably and music is not a serious thing for them anymore, just a
pastime, so they dont do much.. all that nonsense about 168 hour working

Here is my quarter:
The first tracks were pretty much like the single as the earlier post
noted
but what I loved and screamed out to was
4. tour de france etape 3 (4:07), in the middle of the song a new
theme is introduced and it is absolutely beautiful.
5 chrono (3:27) IMHO the best track on the album. There are a lot of
nice disharmonics producing a hypnotic effect, I wish it could be
twice the length.
6 vitamin (8:09) Ralf and Florian should get an applause for their
brave rhyme Protein - ABCD-vitamin. I guess we will see a slightly
faster techno version of the track with the lyrics "Koffein, und ein
bisschen Efedrin"
7-8. aero dynamik - titanium Loads and loads of nice sub-bass effects.
I really would like to hear this one live.
9.elektro kardiagram It begins so good, but I think it is a bit
longish.
10 - 11. I agree with Sebastian. I think it is quite similar to
Electric Café atmospherewise.

12 tour de france (5:10) - great version with Ralf singing obviously
instead of Karl Bartos. My question is: Is it Florian who is doing the
"Tour de France, Tour de France" or is it Ralf with a cold?

I have just heard it a couple of times, but... IT IS BRILLIANT.

On the KW mailing list there is a review that each of the tracks mix into
each other and that there are no ' songs' as such, which is a little
contradictory to other reviews of this album..

In a way, I hope not. Too tempting. While I appreciated hearing the
single versions, it's just too tempting! I can't help it! Sure, it's
kinda not right if you look at it from the whole file sharing debate
going on, but I plan on buying the cd single, lp single and album lp
and cd album, and concert ticket (soon! I hope) anyway.

It's just I must have my headphones and new actual cd alone like I did
with all of the other music from Kraftwerk I've bought through the
years.

It's too tempting and too spoiling. If it does get out before I get
it, keep it away from me, please!!!!!

Hi All,
As for cracking the copyright protection, someone should have a
cd player with digital output (optical) and most new soundcards have optical
in, wouldn't that work?

I will be buying the album, but theorize that the above is plausable?

no problem at all. i´m working on a little tdf remix aswell
and wanted to lift bits off the single, not just the mp3s.
just play it back with the little pc tool that comes with it and
record it with wavelab or a similar program. easy as that.

I have absolutely every intention of buying the album, even if its
rubbish (which we all know it wont be). But seriously, I can not go
another week without hearing it, knowing that it exists, commercially.
Someone, do the right thing, and spread it! If not the full album,
then at least the new tracks.
