In addition WA3 totally abandons the standard m3u playlist format to go
to a Winamp-only proprietary playlist format. WTF is that supposed to
be..a fucking feature???
Lastly my DFX dsp plugin (and 99% of all WA2 plugins) do not work in
WA3. Who the hell needs this fucking abortion of a so-called "media
player". And video playback?? Puhleeze..leave the video to WMP and
stick to kicking ass with superb audio like I enjoy in WA 2.8 Nullsoft
has totally and 110% fucked up Winamp beyond belief. Thank god for
older versions.....
OH..and not that I care that much but thank you Nullsoft for rendering
my entire collection of hand-picked and several personally customized by
hand WA2 skins totally worthless and useless...fuck why don't you guys
just finish the job and come over here and shoot my fucking dog too????

After more than one year of labour, Nullsoft released WA3 final!
Here are the differences between Winamp 2 and 3
a.. WA2 uses 8mb of memory, WA3 uses 20mb! The processor rushes more
with WA3.
b.. In Shuffle mode, WA3 always pick the first song on the top of the
list when starting. When we press BACK, it chooses another random song
instead of playing the last song that played before. So, PLAY, BACK and
FOWARD have all the same function.
c.. Sound quality is better with WA2
d.. The sound volume is independant with Windows sound in WA3. In
Winamp 2, the Windows "Wave" slide is dependant with Winamp volume.
e.. The "J" key of WA2 for jump is replaced by another complicated
thing into WA3.
f.. The small visualisation screen options were all disabled in WA3.
For example, we cannot choose peak falloffs
g.. MP3-to-WAV have been removed.
h.. WA3 plays video format, but when we want to listen to every MP3's
in a folder, if there are videos in that folder, it's gonna play the
videos. So, in the middle of a job, a video is starting in the middle
of the screen! If we close the video window, the song stops, even if
the option is disabled.
i.. In the "Autoscrool songname" in WA2, we can click on the song and
scrool. We cannot do it anymore into WA3.
j.. In WA2, there are options on the left, such as "Always on top" or
"Double size". These options have been moved somewhere else more
complicated in WA3. We must pass by the menu.
k.. In WA3, if we choose the classsical skin, it's supposed to look
lithe the good old Winamp 2.x It works, but the playlist stays with the
new WA3 skin. Weard !?!?
l.. WA3 integrated a crossfade... At least, it seems to work!
m.. WA3 is supposed to integrade more functions. Where are they??
n.. We can't right click and "Enqueue in WinAmp" with WA3
o.. Winamp3 doesn't read ID3s anymore
p.. Not enough plug-ins or skins available for WA3
q.. Some internet keyboards with audio features have troubles with
WA3.
r.. In WA2, we can choose the sound card used to read MP3's. (for some
prople who have 2 sound cards) In WA3, it takes the default sound
card...
s.. In WA2, we can right click stop button and "stop w/crossfade or
"astop after current". We can't in WA3
I looked FAQ's on winamp.com, and for each of these points, they reply
"WA3 isn't an upgrade of WA2, but an entire new program entire
redesigned, and if we are not happy, stay with WA2" That's what I've
done !!!
They spent more than 1 entire year to create Winamp 3... Why upgrade
????
I'l wait until a real FINAL version will come. If all the features I
listed were "repaired", then I'll upgrade for WA3.
Perfectly said.
I have nothing more to add.

I am just shocked and disappointed that Justin would allow this to
happen. I live about 30 miles from him (we've emailed a few times) and
I have been a registered WA user since way back when it was $10 to
register. Of course since then he took it freeware which I thought was
way cool....

It went to an XML based format to work with its database and be more
expandable. And its not really hard to figure out and shouldn't be hard to
implement reading (and writing) in other programs.
So sound is the same => this means WA2 isn't better too.

I can load and save m3u playlists with WA3. But they use a different
encoding for special characters (ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, é, è, ô, ç, ...), this
causes WA3 and WA2 m3u-playlists to be a different format, with the same
extension. I think this is worse than not supporting m3u. So unless they
make the m3u implementation in WA3 the same as in WA2, I won't use any m3u's
with WA3.

Tried this yet ?

WA2 isn't dead (yet)

Yeah right, video in WMP. I must say WMP is better at video playback than
WA3, but I don't use it. I use BS-Player for video's.

What have they done ? Here on my computer my WA2 skins aren't changed by
installing WA3. You're always saying you'll keep using WA2 (as many people
say), so why would the WA2 skins be worthless and useless?
> fuck why don't you guys
> just finish the job and come over here and shoot my fucking dog too????
Maybe some will write component to that. Everything's possible with WA3.
bwah,
As I read what you say, I only read you're pissed off because WA3 isn't what
you expected of it. And it's not because you live only 30 miles away of the
great Justin and you emailed each other, that your ideas about what WA3
should be are more worth than others. I just don't get why you keep
repeating that.
You never say something about the positive things of WA3. I, myself, enjoy
WA3 (my cpu can handle it with ease), but I'm not blind for the things that
are bad in it. You're just saying "this is bad", "that is bad", "this was
better", "I live near Justin", "Why did they do that", "Why aren't there 500
skins/components yet after 1 week?", "they fucked up this", "I payed 10$",
"Nullsoft has gone bad"... I don't like it when people only want to see the
bad things.

If they have to put out this new software to compete with Musicmatch,
Realone, etc., it should have had a completely different name and be
able to co-exist with Winamp 2.80 on your system. Most of the time, I
just want the smallest quickest ap to play music while I'm working.
Other times I might want to use the larger music ap to do whatever the
hell it does.
I had a similar experience with RealJukebox 2 Plus, which I paid $30
for. 'Upgrading' to RealOne (they cannot co-exist on one system)
removed several useful features, for example, if I want to change a
256kbps MP3 to a 128kbps, there is no way to do it directly. I have to
burn it to a CD and then rip it again. (Or, upgrade for $10 EVERY
MONTH! What poor saps are doing that?)

No it doesn't abandon M3u. Right click on "Playlist". Save it via the
dropdown box as M3u. Launching M3u works as it did under WinAmp 2.8.

I'm very happy with v3. The betas gave me some grief but the released
version seems fine. YMMV apparently.
