Well, I think we have to open a discussion here about which profile
directory should sunbird use.
Should it use a completely seperate profile directory ( .sunbird )? What
about using the .mozilla profile directory?
That way new sunbird users don't need to recreate their calendar files
or point to those they were using in the mozilla suite. On the other
hand using existing profiles will cause conflicts running both
applications ( e.g. Mozilla suite and sunbird ) at the same time. Also
what if someone wants to use calendar as an extension ( through xpi's )?
They will be bound to the profile the host application is using.
Inputs? Suggestions?
Mostafa
I guess after a short while, the thunderbird team decided not to use the
.mozilla profile and create their own .thunderbird profile.

Way to go, works brilliamtly so far on MDK 9.1. Thnx a lot.
I have imported my old ics file (from Windoze) and that has brought in the
events brilliantly. How do I get the tasks I had?
Cheers

I failed the Turing test.
My problem was, I've moved over to using firebird and thunderbird. So
now in order to use sunbird, I have to create a separate firebird
profile. Thus, when loading up sunbird and choosing a profile, I would
be shown all the standard firebird profiles as well as the real sunbird
one, and when loading up firebird, I'll see the sunbird profile ... In
fact I *can't* use the same profile for firebird and sunbird (because of
profile locking) unless I close one before opening the other...
I think if its running as a separate application it needs to have a
separate profiles directory. I presume then the xpi version would use
the profile of the host, and I think this is completely correct (can't
use multiple profiles from within an application).
This basically makes it simple to use sunbird as standalone or the xpi
from within something else, and only requires extra work if you want the
two profiles to share a calendar (which isn't that difficult anyway).
The alternative (as it currently stands) makes it difficult to use
sunbird as standalone, which seems to defeat the object
Thanks

Why is it named _MozillaSunbird_ (and not *Mozilla Calendar*)? Is this
(non-descriptive) name temporary, like the MozillaFirebird and
MozillaThumperbunny names? I sure hope so!
Once MFB & MTB land on the trunk (around Mozilla 1.6), they will
(thankfully) be renamed to Mozilla Browser and Mozilla Mail&News. The
only reason the are called MFB & MTB is to avoid confusion with the
browser and mail components of the current Mozilla suite.
Suggestion: Call it (whether standalone or XPI) *Mozilla Calendar*. ;)

Exporting/Importing tasks is yet to be implemented but why didn't you
just copy your .ics files?

Mozilla Calendar tends to follow the Mozilla community. This naming (
MSB ) is also to avoid the same type of confusion. Once they rename, the
application will happily be called "Mozilla Calendar" again. I'm sorry
if this was too obvious to mention.
Mostafa
It's sometimes better to be clear about things. Yes, one could assume
that the Calendar naming was following the mozilla naming convention
(which BTW *does* have many confused - so I'm not sure saying it's "too
obvious to mention" is really fair), but explicitly stating so takes the
guessing out of it.
Anyways, thanks for clearing that up, Mostafa.

OK, That was easier :-) I was not sure that it would work moving between OS's as
I have had loads of probs when I moved the mail. Least it proved it worked anyway
thnx
Neil
no pb, there's no bugzilla entry so we can troll on here :)
Anyway, I think that even though the first people who will try Sunbird
are all reading this newsgroup, and are willing to test it without
corrupting their MozCal.
Since Sunbird will eventually be standalone it shouldn't rely on any
other application profile. What would happen if I installed Mozilla
Calendar /after/ installing Sunbird ? (well of course, installing is
still a big word).
