Is it possible and how do I make a .pdf of an excel
worksheet. I tried printing to file, but that didn't work.

Yes. Most people use the full version of Acrobat. Without it you may
be SOL. Adobe offers a chance to make a free PDF on their site, but
I think there is a limit to how many/how big.

There is also some free(+adverts) software on "FinePrint PDF Factory" which
installs as a print driver. I use it all the time. Try an internet search

Hi Judie,
I doubt very much that most people use the full Adobe Acrobat
version. I expect most people probably use a smaller version
that came as software with flat bed scanner. The flat bed scanner
may have cost only $40 after rebates, and the software included
is probably all that most people need.

There are other means of creating .pdf files (free) as well including
Snap To PDF http://users.bigpond.net.au/mooralana/
which provides a simpler interface to interface to AFPL Ghostscript,
which you also have to install, and is also free.

Whether you use GhostScript or the Adobe Distillers you
basically print a PostScript file to a file and convert it to
a PDF file. You might check your Excel File,Print options
to see if you already have an option such as
"Acrobat PDFwriter"
or under the Excel File menu an option: "Create Adobe PDF..."
or a button on your toolbar like a red looped triangle, all
of which create a .pdf file which cannot be directly
printed to a printer. You normally use the free
Adobe Acrobat reader to view and print .PDF files
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html

You can print a PostScript file directly to a PostScript
printer, but a PDF file is no longer PostScript.

Save/print your file as/to a PS file. Once it's in PS format you can
open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader, which converts it to PDF. Then just
save the open file from there.
