There are other means of creating .pdf files (free) as well including
Snap To PDF http://users.bigpond.net.au/mooralana/
which provides a simpler interface to interface to AFPL Ghostscript,
which you also have to install, and is also free.
Whether you use GhostScript or the Adobe Distillers you
basically print a PostScript file to a file and convert it to
a PDF file. You might check your Excel File,Print options
to see if you already have an option such as
"Acrobat PDFwriter"
or under the Excel File menu an option: "Create Adobe PDF..."
or a button on your toolbar like a red looped triangle, all
of which create a .pdf file which cannot be directly
printed to a printer. You normally use the free
Adobe Acrobat reader to view and print .PDF files
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html
You can print a PostScript file directly to a PostScript
printer, but a PDF file is no longer PostScript.

Save/print your file as/to a PS file. Once it's in PS format you can
open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader, which converts it to PDF. Then just
save the open file from there.
