At last night's concert Sheryl Crow did a tribute to John Entwhistle.
It was a totally unexpected kick ass rendition of "Can't Explane."
Sheryl did back up vocals while Jim Boges, the drummer, took the
leads.

The show was at DTE Energy Music Theatre Aughst 10, 2002. The Jeep
Tour.

Got good deal with that show. Got to see a lot of stuff. Heard O. A.
R., Train, and Sheryl. Each did their stuff along with some Zeplin,
Simon and Garfunkle, Who, and Areosmith.

That show seriously kicked ass.

Day long event started at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and lasted 'til
11:30. Well worth the $40+ I paid for the ticket and got a pretty
good recording of Sheryl's set to boot.

Hello,

She also did Zeplins "Rock and Roll" to close the show.

O A. R. did Simon and Garfunkel's "Feeling Goovy" song and Train did that
one slow Areosmith "Dream On" song and a Zep tune.

This was one hell of an unique concert experience for me. Lots of shit to
see besides the music acts. Olympic athelets doing ski jumps (yes you
read correctly) in the parking lot. The ski ramp was at least 80 ft in
the air.

There were also Stunt bike demonstrations and you get to Kiak and learn
how to scuba dive, too, in huge swimmin' pools set up in the parking lot.
Some of the instructors are famous outdoor athelets. Really cool. First
class all the way.

Big curved ramps like you see on TV are used in the bike demonstrations.
This stuff was worth the price of admission alone!

I saw a lot of strange things in DTE's parking lot over the past 3 years
but this tops it. Huge swimming pools where folks can get on full scuba
tights and gear to learn how to scuba dive. A white water rapids type
pool where you get in can be instructed how to Kiak. Activities that I
only get to see on TV!

If I did not have my recording gear on me I would have tried out the snow
ski tent where you put on a snow ski and and an instructor actually
teaches you how to ski on this big carpeted conveyor belt!

Cameras are allowed at the Jeep World Outside Festival. They are even
selling them at the consession booths.

Also, there is an autograph booth. You can get autographs from ALL the
bands in person. Meet your favs. However, Sheryl will not be there due
to ovious reasons. However, presigned Crow CDs are sold for $20 a pop. I
had no money so I did without. :(

Eight bands played all day on two stages. One stage was in the parking
lot (called the 2nd stage) and the first stage was in the actual venue.
Ziggy Marley was a no show.

For those interested, good seats run a little more than $40 each and the
festivle lasts from 3:00 until Sheryl leaves the stage at 11:30.

I got my ticket the day of the sale and was offered 2nd row. However,
that spot is typically directly in front of security and I would have been
overshot by the speakers. I asked for one further back and got row H, 8
rows from the stage in almost direct line of the speaker array. My
recording came out really good.

For $40 this festival is a steal.

Below are the remaining dates.

Why can't they have more stuff like this? The "Jeep World Outside
Festival" was FUN!

Have a nice day, :)

<<cheesy MOR acts snipped>>

I'm really missing the connection that makes this worth posting to
rec.music.gdead, and the Who connection is similarly tenuous at best.

This newsgroup long ago (and I'm talking waaaaay before booie :) gave up
any pretense of remaining "on topic."

Speaking of which, anyone know what's up with mr. molecule these days?

yeah, when I think balls-to-the-wall "maximum R&B," my first thought is:
Sheryl Crowe.

Not any more much of a commercial as the venues name, DTE ENERGY MUSIC
THEATRE, or SPONSORED BY MGD (Miller Genuine Draft) which has been on
every building and promotional DTE material ever since I started going
there in 1999.

You'll have a hard time finding print material that has "DTE" without
MGD in connection with it. Sadly, I'll bet this sponsorship is one of
the very few ways the popular venue can stay open.

> Did they shove a pepsi cola up your ass on the way in?

The commercialization was not as much as you think it was. There were
a few Jeep signs and a booth but most of it was non-advertisement
activites and demonstrations. Not notacible unless you were looking
for it.

Jeep simply sponsored the thing.

Here's some commercialzation for you that will make you sick.

On the night of September 11, 2001 the local radiostation held a
candel light vigil which was also simulcasted on the radio. I went
there.

>From acutally being there I can say that folks at home may have had a
different impression of the events.

The ceremony was held in a park and there were several speakers. All
were DJs and Politicians. At every chance the MC announced the name
of the radio conglomerate that held the vigil. You got to hear
"Citadel Broadcasting" repeated over and over.

"Citadel Broadcasting"

You would think that they were promoting the "Pig Gig."

DJs were sharing their toughts on the attack and so were politicians.
"Citadel Broadcasting" It was kind of in bad taste."Citadel
Broadcasting" I guess you had to be there. "Citadel Broadcasting" I
felt kind of embarrassed.

Radio promotion for the vigial said that thousands would show but
there had to be less than 200 in attendance. "Citadel Broadcasting."

Halfway through it I thought that I should have stayed at home.

The advertising at the "Jeep World Outside Festival" was far less
conspicious. It was an outdoor fest and Jeep advertisements were
minimal and barely noticable by myself except for at the gates.

ditto! We saw her in concert with Wilco and couldn't make it through her
1st set. I looked at my husband, big sigh and roll of the eyes and we were
OUTTA there!
