2004-01-12 - Summary of mozilla.org staff meeting
-------------------------------------------------

Present: dbaron, asa, chofmann, gerv, leaf, brendan, mitchell, bart,
myk, scc, ben

*1.6 Final*

- Brendan has one checkin, then we are ready to go
- Need to get Talkback set up
- Aiming for a release on Thursday
- Also hoping to cut CDs on Thursday

*Mozilla Firebird 0.8*

- It would be good to ship > 0.7 on CD; get installer
- But it may not make it by Thursday
- Perhaps update CD in a month with 0.8 and Thunderbird 0.5
- Gecko on branch is a big buggy; merge some Gecko fixes from trunk?

*Thunderbird update for CD*

- Is it worth putting the latest build on there instead of 0.4?
- Release overhead too big; we should ship a proper build
- The goal was to do 0.5 in 1.6 timeframe, but not enough new stuff
- So 0.4 is going on the CD; 0.5 coming whenever

*1.7 Alpha*

- Alpha planning meeting on Friday
- We want to hold alpha until Talkback is working on MF servers

*CVS over SSH*

- New web page says it all
- http://www.mozilla.org/hacking/cvs_over_ssh_plan.html
- We need to modify despot
- Add people by hand in the interim
- Advertise it with mail to all current committers

*Developer Day*

- chofmann schedule meeting this week to get agenda outline

*LinuxWorld*

- IBM are playing it low-key
- So we aren't going

*Miscellaneous*

- Getting more snail mail from users in the past few days
- Some are even support requests!
- We redirect to e.g. MozillaZine.
- Grad student from San Jose doing a security project on profile data

Does this imply that 1.6 is buggy as well, or was this about merging Gecko
fixes from the 1.6 branch (which happened the day after this meeting)?

It was about merging fixes from the 1.6 branch (and from the trunk
between the branchpoints) onto the Firebird 0.8 branch.

Wouldn't you need to get AOL to change the host-Record for
talkback.netscape.com then (since the 1.6 release points to there)? Or
was the configuration of TB in 1.6 release just some weird error?

I was under the impression that .8 Firebird would be based on Moz 1.6
branch anyway. Is there a reason .8 would not be based on 1.6?

Firebird 0.8 branch was created long before moz 1.6 was released. So
bugfixes need to be checked in separately to firebird's branch if it
wants them.

Firebird now has all the fixes that went into the 1.6 branch. The reason
for branching earlier from the trunk was AFAIK mainly that they wanted
the bugfix for bug 220807 for their release, while the seamonkey folks
wanted that fix to bake on the trunk in the 1.7a phase first.

It doesn't; it points to talkback.mozilla.org. Or it should... if it
isn't, email a...@mozilla.org and le...@mozilla.org.

Yes, talkback.mozilla.org currently _points_ at talkback.netscape.com
until we have our own talkback servers. After we do, it'll get
repointed, and all the 1.6s will magically start sending us talkback.

If 1.6 was coded to lookup the name "talkback.netscape.com", _then_ I'd
be worried. That's what I was asking about.

Um...maybe i need to check again. Here when TB sends one report, it says
it sends it to talkback.netscape.com (Mozilla 1.6 of course). Or does TB
simply insert the CNAME for talkback.mozilla.org in the dialog?

The point is that once the mozilla.org servers are set up,
talkback.mozilla.org will point to them, and we will be able to retrieve
talkback reports sent after the switch. Hopefully this will happen
within a week or two.

You (all) may want to go to
<http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=231250>:
{
Mozilla v1.6/Windows: Talkback is back, but its configuration seems obsolete
}
now !?

You are right. 1.6 is broken and leaf is fixing it. Thanks for
persisting :-)
