Personally I usually do Artist - Title for compilations (non-mixed),
Artist - Track# - Title for artist albums, and occasionaly; album name
- Track # - Artist Title, when I have a mix album

If you have WinXP you can name the file only
Artist - Songname
and put the rest of the info (album, track #...) on the tag.
When you view your folders with the "details" option on, you can select
what tag info you want to see and/or organize your files

Filenames that long cause problems if you ever want to transfer your files
to CD. I prefer

Artist/Album (Year)/Track#.Title

or (for compilations)

Various/Album (Year)/Track#.Artist-Title

If you keep all the relevant information in ID3 tags you can always reformat
the filenames later.

I myself keep it simple,

Artist - Track

I myself don't see the reason to have a complicated file name as the *ID3*
tags take care of any cross reference needs I have. . . I spent about two
days straight tagging up all my MP3s and then I got Windows Media Player 9
which has an excellent *Juke-Box* function and *internal* database of all my
music, genres, moods, artist, year, playlists, etc, etc.

even if you called your file zogkon8787sedlk909kf.mp3 in wouldn't matter *as
long* as you had the file tagged up properly and you use a suitable ID3 tag
info sniffing program.

Since using WMP9 I no longer access my files from windows explorer, which
*was* the way I been doing it for years!

P.s: you lazy crossposter ;P better to send seperate messages to *each*
group rather than spamming the one across many.

Yeah, but isn't it strange that news programs tend to make it easy to
crosspost but awkward to multipost? You'd think they'd make the better
way easier.
