1.5 schedule...

1.5 branched today for the wrap up on that release. The trunk is now
open for 1.6 development.

In the next few weeks we will be trying to stick pretty close to this
release schedule for 1.5.

-in the next few days - release a 1.5 RC1 and get some good rounds of
downloads and testing going
-mid to end of next week - release a 1.5RC2 (last planned release
candidate for 1.5)
-week of sept 22 - test the heck out of the RC2/Final candidates to
identify any stoppers
-week of sept. 29 - post 1.5 final.

Updates as we get closer to each of these events.

How about some updates on the Thunderbird/Firebird-split from
st...@mozilla.org or dri...@mozilla.org?

- Some people are saying, that after 1.5 seamonkey will be abandoned
as the main project in favor of Firebird/Thunderbird.
- Others say, that this will only happen after Firebird reaches the
1.0 release.
- And some people say, that the split will only occur, when we have
a separate GRE/XRE, although nobody seems to have a definite clue
on what the GRE/XRE will include as could be seen by some IRC
discussions in #mozilla some day ago.

I understand, that at the moment a lot is going on with the Mozilla
foundation in terms of server relocation, hiring of key people, etc.
but some definite information on the split would be appreciated.

We hope to have something for you soon. As you can understand, it's
important to get all the major parts in place before we do a roadmap
update, because otherwise people only get half the story.

Getting half the story isn't good, but saying nothing at all just means
everyone makes up the story, which isn't much better...

In particular, blogdom seems to be rather worried that Firebird developers
and Mozilla developers aren't communicating, and given that the plan is
for the Firebird code to become the primary focus of Mozilla, that's
probably not good. Although, if the switchover from Seamonkey isn't going
to happen in the near future, I suppose those issues can be ignored for a
while longer...
