I have a bet about Henry Fonda's navy rank in subject movie. I say he was a
Warrant Officer while my friend believes he was a Lieutenant. Can anyone
confirm the answer. TIA

He's in uniform on the poster, and if you blow
it up enough you can see the blue band in the
middle of the single ring on his sleeve. Warrant
Officer 4. The hand of a small child covers the
branch insignia, though.

He was superior to Ensign Pulver, therefore not a warrant officer. I think
a commander.

Different movie. He is talking about yours mine and ours...not Mr. Roberts.

I can't believe that there was no 'rank adjustment' when he left the
Enterprise within minutes of reading about Lucille Ball's pregnancy.

Good movie otherwise. It's an eerie feeling, looking at the sailors on
the flightdeck and imagining their next tour in the Tonkin Gulf.

The real Frank Beardsley was a Warrant Officer. So was the character
that Henry Fonda played in the movie that was based on Mr. Beardsley's
family.

I read somewhere that the Navy Commissary officially classified the
Beardsley family as restaurant so they could buy their groceries there
at wholesale prices.

We had 11 in our family. My dad was in avionics and later
teaching in the Marines. We always were stationed in the
South, where families have 2 or 3 kids at the most. Whenever
we moved to a new base the local paper sent a photographer
and a reporter over and we got a nice family picture on the
front page.
