Why am I disconnected every 45 minutes?

When I'm online trying to download a file that lasts more then 45 minutes
MSN disconnects me. How do I fix this?

I tried

was set to 20minutes. Is there something else that could disconnect me in 45
minutes?

I'm in the process of reading the hundreds of "disconnect" messages in this
group. I will probably figure it out after reading them. It sounds like it's
a real problem.

I don't use OE6 so I can't help much with that but for huge downloads a
download manager can be a real asset. If you get disconnected it will allow
you to resume the download where you left off.
Here's an example:

I've used it and it works.

The following tweaks work for OE5.5...I don't know if they will help you or
not:

Things to try:

#1) On your Outlook Express screen, left click Tools / Options /
Connection tab. Uncheck..."Hang up after sending and receiving".

#2) On your desktop, right click the Internet Explorer icon / left click
Properties / Connections tab / Settings button / Advanced button.
Uncheck..."Disconnect if idle for more than xx minutes"...and
uncheck..."Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed".

#3) On your desktop, left click the My Computer icon / Dial-Up Networking
/ right click the MSN icon / left click Properties / Configure button /
Connection. Uncheck..."Disconnect a call if idle for more than xx minutes".

#4) When offline, go to your Taskbar and left click Quickview (the red
hand) / select MSN Options / left click Connection Settings / Options.
Uncheck..."Disconnect if idle for more than xx minutes".

#5) If you connect using the MSN icon on your desktop it will open the
http://msnmember.msn.com/ page...when you exit IE5 after having entered
from here ....you will receive the "You are about to be disconnected" ...
30...29...28...window.

One last possibility...uninstall the MSN software and create a DUN...this

Usually the best way to avoid the disconnects caused by the MSN software is
to set up a DUN. However most cases involving MSN's software seem to be
disconnecting every 20 minutes. Still might be worth a try.

Thanks for your help, I will try all of these. I think it's a combination of
bad phone lines and some of the items listed below. I usually can catch it
if I'm sitting in front of the computer. But not in the middle of the night.
