I think it would be an excellent idea to implement chat channels on
FIBS. While I generally enjoy and have had some excellent games with
the "college crowd", I really don't care to hear all the silly banter
that has led me to toggle silent. There are obviously others in the same
mode. It's too bad that many of us feel the need to isolate ourselves
from communication and socialization because we have only 1 way
(outside of a game) to talk to more than one person at a time but don't
want to be bombarded with all the BS to utilize it. I'm not sure we
need 100 channels, but it would be nice to have at least a few with
specific topics, such as "Looking for a game", "Help Wanted",
"Happenings on FIBS" or whatever. And, of course, a few open channels
where anything goes. I think it would improve everyone's chance of
getting what they want out of FIBS.
