Tre Cool here from Green Day. Christ, it's good to be home,
well at least in California. I always knew that this was the best
state, but touring the South this winter reminded me how much
California means to me. For one thing, Zero tolerance laws suck.
A marijuana seed or stem should not be grounds for arrest.
Unfortunately, in many places, the jails must be a little too empty
and the cops must be a little too bored or something.
I'm not slagging the South. In fact, I've met many wonderful people
and seen a lot of cool stuff. Sometimes, the word "y'all" can be a little
too much. But then again, we have our East Bay slang that must sound
stupid to everybody except us. I saw alligators for the first time,
walked thru Graceland, and prayed to Jesus Christ for the first time since
first grade.
I guess there are rumors floating around about Green Day signing
to a major label. We haven't decided what we will do for our next album.
We have 14 new songs but no record. Honestly, Columbia, Geffen, and
Interscope have shown serious interest (this morning I had breakfast
in L,A. with a Columbia A&R man). No deal has been made and we're not
going to let anybody take advantage of us. Billie Joe, Mike, and myself
are musicians and nothing else. We have no other skills. I can hardly
read and write. In fact, I'm plumb stupid. Heck.
If I weren't so dumb, I'd go to college and be a computer science
major. But alas, the colleges don't want me. My mother doesn't even
want me. She wants Billie Joe.

Peace, 5000 G's

Hey- I heard from frriends in NYC that you Green Day folks cancelled
your show at ABC NO RIO (one of the best places for shows in the entire
world) because you said it was a shit place. Is that really true? A
lot of people in my home state, CT were really disappointed after the
WesConn show was cancelled too, last summer. Also, any plans to come to
the UK soon? Or Europe?

According to Mykel Board Green Day have a habit of not showing up for shows
also.

I saw Green Day with Tilt and some other local bands in Berkeley Sat. Night and
I must say GD do an excellent show. It's been a few years since I've seen them
and they've really improved. It kinda cracks me up to see Billy Joe rebelling
against his "cute" look by being all tattooed and having dreads... He still
looks like he's 16.. But I guess he used to look like he was 12. He turned 21
on Saturday.

The show btw, was sold out and a lot of people were turned away. Inside it was
overcrowded, but the energy was good, and someone bought me a beer. I must say
the highlights of the show were GD's covers of EYE OF THE TIGER and JESSIE'S
GIRL.

what would you say tilt sound like? can you compare them to any other bands?
I'm sort of interested in the tilt 7", but not if its going to blow as bad as t
he wynona riders or juke 7"s.

Green Day had a promoter who booked shows without the band's permission.
Take for instance the Boston incident. This could have very well
been the same situation.
