Where? The lowest price I have seen is around $2000.

There are some online retailers that are asking as little as $1601 (Plano
Power Equipment online store) to $1800 plus shipping for an EU3000, and some
of them including company mentioned say they have said generator in stock,
but if you want something that is relatively quiet, get the EU3000 Honda
rather than the EB3000 which is noisier though cheaper in price. Yamaha has
also come out with a Inverter type generator which is supposedly rated at
lower decibels than even the EU3000, however, it is also on backorder
according to the online companies that are selling them and and runs from
around $1500 for a manual start to $1750 for an electric start. Also to
consider, for only a couple of hundred extra dollars, you could buy two
EU2000s ( Plano Power Equp. sells them for $864 apiece) and a $35 parallel
cable which would provide you with 4000 watts of power when you need it and
they only weigh around 46 lbs. apiece which would be much easier to lug
around rather than the 134 lbs or so that the EU3000 weighs by itself.

It's a fair price for the generator.... not sure how much the shipping will
cost though so it might be too high with it.

They also say that about the EU2000. I bought one last week, new,
from my local Honda Equipment dealer. They had 3 EU2000 and I believe
2 EU3000.
Mayberrrys is a good company--so I've heard. But it always pays to
shop around. I only paid a total of $50 more for mine buying locally.
Worth it with a hurricane coming. :-)

In talking about your other options, I didn't really answer your original
question in my previous post. I'd have to agree with Hunter. If it really
has been used only four or five times and is in good running order, $1400
probably is a fair price for a used EU3000 unless the guy wants an arm and
a leg for the shipping.

Actually, the EU3000i has a 12v battery charging output, but it
requires a proprietary cable.

Yeah, but that's a 2000. The $2000 he referred to is for a 3000.

From what i've heard of the honda inverter gennies, the alternator dosent
have the diode stage in it, so feeds the 3 phase AC to the inverter, and at
something like 40 or so volts.. prolly 48 volts, going on ohms law.. where a
1000 watt inverter would pull 100 amps from the input side at 12 volts, it's
pull 50 amps at 24 volts and so on, so it makes sense to use a higher input
voltage to make the alternator smaller,
i'd like to get one of these gennies and just use the engine to drive a
normal automotive alternator through a 4 stage charger, like neon john does
but having the quietest engine available.
This comes with the backing of a major chain, a store warranty and a service
department. Northern is practically never the cheapest online retailer so a
bit of searching should beat this.
A couple of years ago I bought a honda engine from Northern with which to
build my cordless battery charger. The first time I used it in really cold
weather it tossed a cam belt and blew up. Seems there was a design problem
whereby cold oil would build up under the cog belt and toss it off its pulley.
There was a service bulletin on the topic but Honda had not gotten around to
warning about the problem in the manual.
Honda told me to send the engine back and after inspection they'd repair or
replace it with about a 2 week turnaround time. The local Northern store told
me to go to the rack and get another engine after the service guy took the
engine apart to make sure that was the problem. Total elapsed time: about an
hour. Try THAT with an ebay seller.
My point being, avoid ebay at all costs for anything other than junk.

I would expect Honda to do the same thing, for a chopper is vastly simpler and
less expensive than a PWM inverter. High voltage, low current generation is
more efficient because of the lower I^2R losses, everything else being equal.

Search for "GHX50" - I believe it's the same engine used in the EU1000...

I got one in February for $1599 delivered, from Alamia.com. Northwest
Tools had the same price.

Alamia.com now lists the generator at $1795 but does offer free
shipping. Northwest advertises $1699, but they don't have any. Those
are the lowest prices I have seen. Free shipping probably makes the
Alamia the best deal.
As I remember, the shipping was under a hundred dollars, most places.
