It was so windy last night that I got a little worried about the sat dish so
got up in the middle of the night and cranked it down then had to find the
satellite this morning. I see now what bill horne likes so much about this
type of RVing. :-)

We'll probably stay at River's Edge because of its proximity to
Algodones where we plan to spend much of our time. Anyone been to the
Pioneer Taco stand lately? I sure wish they would get their old
location back.

Bob,
We should all have brother with that kind of set up!
What? No DSL?
Tom M
No, and I'm complaining about that. He also does not have a hot tub or a
swimming pool. He's a cheap ass.
Hey. "Flatspotting" infers no more amenities than a relatively flat spot
and maybe some stones gathered up for a fire ring. It's MY word, and I'm
not going to let you corrupt it like folks have done with "boondocking"
and "investing". Hellman, I even turn off the radio as soon as I leave
the pavement. I don't even use a flashlight until I've tripped once -
but that usually happens early on. I can't see in the dark like I used
to.

I replied,
My brother has a hot tub, but...... My trailer isn't allowed anywhere near his
place and by truck can only stay fro two nights. When I visit him north of St
Louis, I think I'll stay at the Granite City KOA.
Being sixty five feet long reduces the invitations to "Come stay in out
driveway." Now, I have a cousin with fifty acres near Salida CO that might
squeeze me in.
Tom M
This is not at his house. This is at a 1 acre vacant lot on the very edge of
a little town a few miles from Mt. St. Helens. It's set up for RV's only.
His house is located up near Seattle, WA and your rig would fit in his lower
drive. We've parked 2, 37 foot MH's and a 35 foot fiver in the lower drive.
He doesn't have a hot tub or pool there either but does have high speed
WiFi.
So because you are so damn selfish with your word you can have it. I'll call
it levelgrounding. So there.
Bob,
You did a good job designing your brother's places. I'll start working on my
friends and relatives.
What I need most is water and sewer. I'm willing to pump uphill with the
Macerator and run the generator as needed. I'd be happy to carry my little
laptop into their houses.

Goodgoddamighty. You don't even have any Dark? No Dark is worse than no
campfire. But I suspect there's an owl or a vampire somewhere in my
family tree. Nobody ever wanted to talk about my grandmother on my
mother's side, and the picture they had of her looked like one of those
pics that come in a new wallet.

Steel's Ok I guess - as long as it's wild steel.

Thanks. But you're free to use it if you use it correctly - otherwise,
I'll sue your overcivilized suburbanated ass.
When I'm traveling by myself. Keeps me from getting into arguments.
I can take no credit. It was all accidental. He bought the house he is in
now over 15 years ago. It's on a very large lot and has 2 driveways, an
upper and a lower. They both run from the street along the side of the house
and into the back yards. They were just there when he bought the place. When
he bought his RV he put in a sewer dump spot in the lower drive. Later added
a 30 amp service, water was already available. About 2 years ago he changed
the service to 50 amp. He and I are the only ones of a family of 5 that
still own property. The other 3 are full timers.
As to the lot up North, it was kind of an accident as well. Several years
ago he bought a spot in a camping club on a lake up by Mayfield Lake in Wa.
There was room on the lot for 5 rigs and we would all meet there from time
to time. The problem was that he did not own the land, just the lease on the
lot, so he started looking for a new spot. One of my full time brothers
found the new lot while looking for a place to park for most of a summer. He
rented the spot and about 4 months later the owner decided to sell. All the
improvements were in so it was a good deal for him and has become a pretty
good investment. We pay him $10.00 a night and I'm OK with that because it's
quiet and we/he have complete control over who is camping next to us.

Try to guilt them first, next use begging, and finally threats.

Man, I'm with you.
I couldn't care less about a campfire (since I don't camp much
anyway), but I sure don't want anything taking away my dark.
I wouldn't have one of those big "insecurity lights" on my property if
they gave it to me and paid me to use it.

It was there when they bought the lot. There is a contract that transfers to
the new owner and there is a penalty to terminate it early. Once the
contract is up he plans on changing the way it works. It now comes on
automatically at dark and that is a good thing when no one is at the lot.
That's because he has a storage shed where he keeps stuff rather than have
to haul it back and forth from the house. When the contract is over he plans
on putting in a switch so we can turn the damn thing off at night, but, it's
dark in the MH when you pull the shades, and we do.

I've been known to get into arguments with myself too. But I always
win them.
And sometimes I argue with the radio. That's kinda like this place.
You can win the argument, but it doesn't shut anyone up. Sometimes
arguing with myself works that way too.
Sigh.

Hey! Quit trying to blame the "tripping" on the dark and not the Dogs!
Sheesh. After several of them Dogs it's no wonder you can't see in the dark.

Call it clearspotting. Ya gotta either clear a spot or find one no matter
where you go.

Hi Tom,
When I'm parked at friends' places what I need is water and electric and they
are always available.
I carry extra extension cords in case I can't plug into a garage or a barn and
have to go into the house through the window.
I also carry an 100' phone line, available at Radio Shack....and a little
adapter so I can share a plug with the homeowner's phone.
That way can make calls if I need to and get online.
I can go up to six weeks without needing a sewer to dump, and i'm betting that
big trailer of yours has a larger black tank.

The only time I argue with the radio is when I'm listening to NPR. It
probably should be against the law for me to listen to NPR when I'm
driving. Or at the very least, I should have to 'keep right when
listening'.
A friend of mine moved into a house in town and had one of those street lamp
type of lights in her yard that she had to pay the electric bill on. Didn't
like the light, and sure didn't want to spend money on it either. Couldn't
get it turned off. Well, one evening she sat out on the back porch with a
.22 loaded with a few shorts. Only took one trigger pull to fix the problem.
I could probably use your method and get by on the black tank.
However the washers for clothes and dishes use a lot of water. Figure that the
grey tank is good for two hours.
Tom M
When I am travelling, I bathe in the trailer, do everything in the
trailer, and I have to dump my tanks every 4th day. 40 gallon tanks.

I like to sleep in my RV even when it's in the lot next to my restaurant. I'm
like Bill in that I just hate for my dark to leak out at night. I figured out
a less permanent solution to the (city owned) street light causing dark leaks.
I have one of those cheap chicom laser levels, the kind Harbor Freight sells
for $10 occasionally. Not good enough to be a level so it was being used as a
cat exerciser. Came with a cute little tripod. All I had to do to stop the
dark leak was aim that laser at the photocell window on the street light.
Viola!! Dark all around. And when I need light in that lot I just turn the
laser off. The only modification necessary was to wire in a wall wart to
replace the two AAA batteries it formerly required.

Depending where you are you can probably let the grey tank drain though a
garden hose.

Bob, years ago (the 30's) my Dad spent a summer working for the Forest
Service as a smoke chaser, where they wouldn't see anyone else for about
3 months at a stretch. In the prep training they told me it was OK to
talk to yourself, that it was even OK to answer yourself, but when you
started arguing with yourself it was time to come back in.

I certainly will check with my little cousin in CO. Her lot is so scenic that
everyone thought it was a postcard, not picture thrown in with the Christmas
card. You could see the mountains possibly fifty miles away with no sign of

Would want to mess that place up!
Tom M
Ok, if that's the way you want to be, I'll just send Leroy to make an
adjustment.

No, not that one. I have that one too. Bigger POS than the other one. I
stripped the laser out for a project and tossed the level.
Anyway, the one I have is a bullet-type level, plastic, with a laser in one
end. came with a little tripod in the package. Basically this one except
that when I bought mine it didn't come with a wall wart plug
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=41102
I caught 'em on sale for $9.99 at the store in Winston-salem, NC.
The laser is more than intense enough to trigger the CdS cells in the lamp
controllers. Ironically it is because it's such a crappy laser with a lot of
beam spread that it works so well. A well collimated laser, as from one of my
HeNe tubes, doesn't illuminate enough area of the cell to work.
I got a look the other day at the new photocell the local utility is using.
Instead of a simple CdS cell and a relay it contains a PCB with a small
phototransistor facing out. That one is going to take much better aim than
the old style. Darn! Hope the one on "my" light doesn't fail anytime soon.
Be sure and tell him to bring his toothbrush. If he was from anyplace other
than Georgia he'd have a teethbrush.

I can see I'm gonna have to give Leroy a really good premission briefing
