Hello,

How can I make barcode scanner work with a vehicle's barcode
(VIN)? I've made minor changes to the source code, but barcode
scanner still doesn't like it.

Thanks in advance,
Greg

The code supports common formats, but such barcodes are printed small
usually so are hard to read with a camera.

Get good light and hold back a bit.

Isn't the VIN printed on the label?

It seems like some tweaks to the code are needed. I've used the
auqoniq VIN scanner, and it works great (which is probably based on
ZXing's work), but barcode scanner by itself doesn't scan VINs.

What barcode format does VIN use?

Actually it looks like Code 39, which we do support. The Android app
probably doesn't have enough pixels to read it. You could try making
the scanning rectangle wider (look in CameraManager.java).

VIN barcodes are recognized with the online decoder so I presume
that indeed the resolution of the camera is the main issue here. =)

I'm not sure. The autoniq vin scanner app works great, but the barcode
scanner still won't work with the same resolution/rectangle size,
through my HTC eris.

Does anyone else have problems scanning VINs, or is it just me w/ this
phone?

I'm having the same problem with my Nexus 9, and my Samsung Galaxy S6. It works almost everytime with Qr, but very seldom with barcode 39.
