So, Darrel and I have spent the last two days dealing with a problem on
my car that has it immobile right now and I'm hoping that someone here
would be able to help.

We were working on replacing my suspension and the front driver side is
giving us a lot of problems. Basically the strut assembly had the strut
canister stuck in it. We got that one out by drilling a hole in the
bottom of the tube in the strut assembly and punching it out with a
punch. But, when I tried to put the new one in it wouldn't go because
apparently the tube was bent so the new canister wouldn't go in. So, I
went to LKQ and got one off of another '72 240z only to find out that it
too had the same damned problem.

So, if anyone has a front driver side strut assembly they are willing to
sell, that would be wonderful.

Have you put a straightedge up against the strut assy to verify that it's bent?  Those are pretty strong and an impact that would bend one would also likely damage the unibody.

Even if nobody has a spare they can part with, perhaps someone has one off the car that you can borrow for a test fit?

To answer Daniel's questions:
Well, my car was hit at one point and the unibody did have to be straightened.  And the one I pulled from the junk yard looked like it was hit at some point hard enough to bend the bolt that holds down the sway bar heh.

The thing that makes me think it's bent in there with the new one is the strut is stuck a little off centered like the one that came off my car originally.  The one that came off my car wouldn't allow the new strut to be put in after eventually getting the old one out by drilling the hole and pushing it out with a punch.

Fred:
When would you be free for me to pick it up tomorrow and how much do you want for it?  Just send me a direct email if you'd like.

Michelle

Ok, if you can see damage on both chassis (yours and the donor car), then that makes sense that the strut is bent.
